Best time of year for South West Rocks?

I was there in October 2018. Plenty of sharks.. 30m+ visibility. And humpback whales everywhere on the surface

    CoronaVirus Dilemma

PAL made a schedule change of 11 hours. I just cancelled my ticket for a full refund

    Low budget options

With 2 full weeks of diving (16 days including weekends), losing 2 to 4 days to travel is not a big deal. You can reach pretty much any dive location in Asia and still do 30+ dives. There's a huge variety of dive locations. Prices determined by quality of accommodation, remoteness, whether...

Advice on Komodo please (or other destination for Xmas)

December is south for sure. North is basically 3 meter visibility. Central 10m visibility, lots of mantas. Still divable, but not ideal. In that respect Komodo is an all year round destination. But not the same parts all year.

looking for any feedback/reviews on M/Y Resolute (Tubbataha)

I did Sakura in April and found it quite OK. Food's a little repetitive and kinda too sweet. But food in general in Phillipines is not so good. In other aspects it was quite ok.. comfortable enough but certainly not luxury. Diving was a bit disappointing, we were unlucky. No whale sharks...

Work trip Jakarta then where to dive a few days?

If earliest you can fly out of Jakarta is in the morning, you can get to Komodo same day then do 3-dives a day the next few days. Realistically going to Bali from the morning, you get to the dive resort around 3pm anyway so you miss out on the diving already that day. The advantage of Bali is...

    Short visit to dive SoCal

Looks like Spectre boat is the best option for Thursday and Friday. Bit of a drive, I'll have to get a rental car most likely. Is the diving generally fairly comparable across the different locations up and down the coast ?

    Short visit to dive SoCal

I'd be arriving at LAX on 30th July. Looking at doing at a day or two of diving on the Wednesday or Thursday. Is there any boat dives going out on Wednesdays or Thursdays ? Mainly I want to see the kelp forests.

a6xxx salted line your pre dive check

I tape up 200g wheel weights with electrical tape wound around it. I don't trust the adhesives, lost one set in the seas off Puerto Galera. I would be wary about bringing taking the vacuum valve underwater. It looks like its fairly ease to get it knocked about and you may end up getting it...

Sony a6500 shooting in a Nauticam housing

I fit a Lipo 134055 3500 mah battery inside my Seafrogs salted case. More than doubles the battery capacity. Have to add a small 5V step-up circuit to convert 3.7v to USB power. I use it mainly for lots of 4K videos (wide angle) or the 90mm (macro dives). Chew batteries pretty badly...

    Nitrox at Komodo land-based?

A lot of the top Komodo sites are pretty shallow too. Cauldron is about 6m at the shotgun bit. The other parts not much deeper. Manta Point has about 8m bottom. Mawan 10m where the mantas circle around. The pinnacle sites like Batu Bolong gets deep... but I prefer to hang around 10m where...

    New a6xxx housing from Meikon

Yeah, I found the o-ring on the vacuum plug comes off easily as well. I always double check that the o-ring is still there when putting the vacuum plug back on.

Transfers to Puerto Galera about to become even more difficult?

Yeah I knew thats a foreigner price. It was more of a 10-second negotiation. I went in thinking 150 was the standard tourist price (based on somewhere on the net) and when he said 200, I said 150 was the norm. And he countered with 170. Later on I found out the standard price is really 200...

    Trip Report Trip Report-Philippines-Puerto Galera-El Galleon/Asia Divers-April 1-14, 2019

I'm in Anilao right now, just came over from Puerto Galera and have done budget style trips to Komodo and Raja Ampat. Komodo runs about USD 115 per dive day (Scuba Junkie Komodo). Plus the crazy $25 per day tourist tax. Raja Ampat about USD 115 per dive day also, very basic homestays with...

Transfers to Puerto Galera about to become even more difficult?

On the way from Batangas on April 14, took Genesis ferry (300 php) that ended up delayed from 8:30am to 9:30am. I took 7am JAM bus from Buendia that arrived at Batangas 8:45am. So its a fortunate delay for me. On the way back (today), the scheduled ferry at 2:30pm was actually rescheduled to...

    Home Stay at Raja Ampat.

One of the nice things about diving from a homestay on Kri.. you can do Cape Kri.. a LOT. I did 6 dives out of 26 there. Its worth it... Melissa's Garden for $60 extra is worth it too. Considering you get to visit Fam as well

    Home Stay at Raja Ampat.

No way to tell. Though they'd be putting themselves at risk since they're using the same air. Gear quality is often pretty bad in Indo. Even in Bali where all the dive gear suppliers are. Its very expensive in Indo. There is mobile reception. Evacuation to a decent medical facility is...

    Home Stay at Raja Ampat.

Nyampun Amber. Very small homestay. Many, many homestays on Kri. I went with Wobbegong dive op. The whole island is basically one big inter-related family ownership, both the homestays and the homestay dive ops. I went over easter period.. there's occasional storms lasting a few hours...
