What if DIR Evolved Elsewhere... (take two)

By the time you get to the hose to unhook the QD the inflater is covered in a ball of ice. Besides the fact that unhooking one of those things with 2 or 3 sets of insulation gloves and a nice sloppy blue glove on isn't exactly quick. Me? Well, if I still was insane enough (read had the time...

    Closest place for cave diving??

There are sumps, river caves, mines and limestone karst (deep and short caves) around me. Most notably is a river cave with over 36000 feet of lined passage (if it had even 20 feet of vis, I would be a very rich man). The opportunities for virgin exploration far exceed my ability to dive them...

    Closest place for cave diving??

Sump diving isn't for the faint of heart or unexperienced. It almost always involves cold water, low vis, specialized cave gear and solo diving.

At what point do you run a line?

This is the closest I could find: "With the exception of certain recreational-level specialty diving activities, open water divers are never under overhead obstructions that would prevent them from making an immediate ascent directly to the surface." pg 21, GUE Cave1 Manual v1-1 by Jarrod...

    Time for a new forum?

Because the DIR forum would become a sterile wasteland. it would consist of someone asking a question and then waiting for one of the 3-4 people who come here who actuality have serious GUE/DIR credentials to answer it. That would be guys like RTodd and MHK. Almost every thread in here would be...

    Time for a new forum?

"1-800-GUE-DIVE; Hello how can I help you?" "Is it ok to have a 5 foot hose on my single tank set up?" "Take a class."

    side mount armadillo?

A length of rope with some loops on it. You tie one end of the rope to a handy place on the boat and throw the loops into the water. You clip your stages, scooters and other crap off to the rope so you do not have to enter and exit the water with all that junk attached to you.

    side mount armadillo?

Why not just sling your deco gas like normal?

    side mount armadillo?

Thats what I usually try to do. Rough water can make even that difficult.

    side mount armadillo?

I use my armadillo in open water as well without problem. It can be tricky on a larger dive boat setup sometimes. Giant striding though an opening in a railing has to be done sideways and some ladders are problematic if you are unable to put them on/off in the water.

    Prettiest Florida cave?

Coming out made me feel like I was back home cave diving. Honestly, I much prefer silty, tight places that make you question your sanity over crystal clear, big passage complete with hand, fin and face prints. :/ Probably why I enjoy diving up here so much. There just simply isn't the traffic...
