Just took this photo a few minutes ago from our place mid-SMB.

    7 mile beach???

it’s just the southern end of the beach that’s eroded, primarily due to properties building sea walls too close to the ocean. The rest of SMB is pretty much as it’s always been.

Cayman - Picture of the Day

Took the day off from diving to sit in on sax with a jazz band at Next Door Lounge in Camana Bay (plus an obligatory dive photo taken at Marty's Wall)

    Cressida Leonardo Info Needed

Another lazy old man here with about 300 dives on my Leonardo. It’s worked fine with no problems. I like the one- button operation. 2 buttons confuses me. Agree about the incessant alarm beeping.

    Grand Cayman for unimpressed newbies?

I take most of my Cayman visitors (most of whom either have not dived in a long time or are not certified) for a discovery/refresher dive, and they all have been very impressed and greatly enjoyed the dives. Warm water, low to no current, and great visibility make for easy, fun diving. The...

    Atomic regs/gear

Great regs. Love diving with mine. The only issue is that they should be rinsed under pressure. When boat diving, I go with the same dive ops and they all know to let me rinse my own gear, but you probably don't want them throwing your reg into the rinse bucket. I soak mine at home under...

    USS Kittiwake

Have dived this site about a dozen times and penetrated the wreck on the first few dives (no interest in going inside again at this point - prefer to just hang out on the reef) but I don't recall ever being silted out. I agree it is not a dive for beginners - you still need good buoyancy...

Trip Report Living The Dream Divers- Grand Cayman

LTD is a great outfit. Have dived with them many times.

    Nitrox and pseudoephedrine

I use pseudoephedrine and nitrox on all my dives and have never had any issues.

Question Are bifocal masks any good. Best make?

Got mine from SeaVison, and they work great. I can finally read my pressure gauge.

Do you own your own tank just for home use? Cleaning and testing your gear?

I use a pony to test the IP before each dive and to rinse/soak my (Atomic) regs under pressure after each dive. Pony was cheap and it fits nicely in the bathtub. The local dive-gas shop fills it for anywhere from free to $5 depending on whose on the desk.

Question Lens help for TG-6 with PT-059

I have the vented backscatter m52. Really like the lens, but I do still have to burp it occasionally, so I just do it every time to be sure.

Nahant, MA Beach on Friday morning Parking?

I have not dived there, but there is some area for parking across the street near the Northeastern U Marine Science center. But you will probably have to drag your gear about 500 feet (or drop it at beach and then park).. go to google maps satellite view and you can see what I'm referring to...

Buying property vs renting for longer term stays

Well 10 year T bills are still at just above 3% and inflation is largely based on the rise in pay rates and unusual structural issues. So I guess I still stand by what I said. Buy just what you can afford, and get in the game. If things work out, you can trade up. Our property has more than...

Grand Cayman, any place to buy a piece of carry on luggage? TIA

Try Cost-U-Less in Governor's Square, West Bay Road up near the Westin Hotel. Also Kirk Freeport in downtown George Town - but this will probably be a lot more expensive.

Buddies on Grand Cayman 4/24/23-4/30/23 for shore/night dives.

Leaving for home before then so can't help. But where ae you staying? I often meet visitors at the condo where we stay who are divers, and we occasionally hook up for a shore dive. So maybe you can meet someone once you get here. Worst case - you can pay for a guided shore dive with DiveTech...

Grand Caymen...what area of Island to stay?

As someone who lives on island part of the year with a non-diving spouse, I would recommend 7 mile beach. Best beach, good snorkeling close by, near to restaurants, shopping, entertainment. As as others mentioned, Sunshine Suites (owned by The Westin) is less expensive, has a great mid-beach...

    TG Camera/ M52 air lens

I have the newer one as well, but I always check for bubbles, and I seem to always have a few on both the air lens and the housing lens, so make sure to check both.
