Cancelled/postponed trips due to COVID - please share your outcomes

We were supposed to have gone to Indonesia (East Lombok) last week. Flight with Swiss air to Singapore then on with Singapore Airlines. Coming from France we were not allowed to enter or transit through Singapore anymore. Swiss does not give refund only change ticket to an open ticket with...

Trip Report Alycastre Dive Eco Resort/Flores

The sand is white and poudry. Brought in by boat when the place was build. :facepalm:The "normal" ground is black sand when not covered by white sand. It is possible to take a dip at low tide, you just have to walk a bit further. The bottom is lava rock on one side and sea grass and sand on the...

Trip Report Alycastre Dive Eco Resort/Flores

In October we spent 10 days at Alycastre Dive Resort which is a small, French owned Dive Resort on Pemana Island. We flew from Paris to Bali via Guangzhou with China Southern Airlines, then on with Nam Air to Maumere. Our 10 day package was prebooked with transport from Maumere. The journey to...

Garuda Indonesia cancelled flights without notifying passengers

We had the issue with Garuda last year for a flight from Sorong to Ambon. It was to be a direct flight and we booked directly with Garuda. If not for a fellow diver who wanted the same flight but couldn't find it. Contacted Garuda and were told the flight no longer exists. No notification...

Maybe a little late for the post, but you can also try Tiket2. We have had good experience using the site.

    Indonesia Vs. Fiji?

Fairly inexpensive (compared to the resorts) is diving with some of the local homestays. We dove with Yenkorany a couple of years ago and it was ok. Have a look at this site: Diving with Raja Ampat Homestays: Dive centers and essential information You will also find reviews for the dive operators.

    Pulau Weh

Maybe it was a Friday? Friday's diving is after 2 pm. In all the time I have been there, we never stopped diving when someone died. But perhaps nobody ever died when we were there? :) We will keep going back because Iboih Dive Centre have become good friends. The village of Iboih has a very laid...

Garuda Carry Weight Help: Camera and gear

You are right. It is 23+20. Guess it was wishful thinking on my part :)

    Pulau Weh

Have been to Pulau Weh several times now. Although it is true that Aceh has the Shariah Law, you won't find any of that on PW. The atmosphere is laid back and people are very friendly. Have been there both in February and September: February the water is clearer but not so many of the big boys...

Garuda Carry Weight Help: Camera and gear

If you are flying Garuda domestic, you have 2x23kg. The free 23kg Sports equipment applies to domestic flights as well. One of the reasons I tend to choose Garuda although their tickets are more expensive than Air Asia, Lion Air etc.

    Dive Operators Wakatobi

Has anyone been to Patuno Resort in Wakatobi? I have looked at other diving communities but nothing. I know of Hoga and Tomia but was wondering about Patuno.

    Pulau Weh trip report

Yes there was a fair amount of mosquitoes in September , much less in March, we took a preventive treatment. On that subject you must totally avoid Lariam and its derivatives as the side effects closely mimic DC sickness symptoms and can create problems for divers. The locals dont take any anti...

    Pulau Weh trip report

Life on the island is very quiet. Not much going really apart from diving. :) so you are right, it is dive, eat, sleep, repeat. ;) The main beaches are Gapang Beach and Iboih Beach. They are both much the same and not that far from each other. We always stay on Iboih Beach. As for drinks, there...

    Pulau Weh trip report

This was our second trip to Pulau Weh after having been in March of this year. This was definitely the better season to dive because we saw a lot more big fish then in March. The one draw back is that with the onset of the monsoon the visibility was not as great as in March but that what brings...

    50+ year old divers

I live in the UK and I am 54, my dive buddy is 69. I did my OW last year in Thailand and my AOW on Pulau Weh/Indonesia. To date I have managed to log 45 dives. We tend to dive in South East Asia, mainly Indonesia. We both got our Nitrox certification a few weeks back.

Pulau Weh and Pulau Weh Dive resort

I totally agree with Superdiver18, Mur is really a good guide and very safety conscious. If the current is too strong at the spot then he will go to another where there is less current. He told us, in terms of currents the best with the least current is 5 days either side of a new or full moon...

Pulau Weh and Pulau Weh Dive resort

We were in PW in March this year and we are going back in September. The diving is good and in terms of value for money you can't get much better than this. We arrive via Kuala Lumpur and take an Air Asia flight from there directly to Banda Aceh and the ferry onwards. As of this year there are...
