Four who died were not trained for Delta P - Trinidad and Tobago

Hi, the final report about the Delta P incident has now been given to the President of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. Let’s hope that she will make it public in a few days or weeks. And, if you want to know more about it, here is a short animation I’ve made that will help you to understand...

Four who died were not trained for Delta P - Trinidad and Tobago

Thank you Sunn, as you may have realized, even if the incident command team (ICT) had reacted appropriately, the rescue of these divers would not have been an easy task.

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

Thanks a lot to everybody for your replies. It seems that I’ve to revise my opinion about the survival time of this (these) diver(s) after this relatively rapid decompression. For your info, this case concerned the accident that happened in Trinidad & Tobago in 2022 where 5 divers were sucked...

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

Akimbo, that’s true, 330 min is the maximum available time in the Rev 7 usn manual. Just to verify I’ve done a simulation on excel to see what the decompression time would be for a dive time of 840 min. It gives a decompression time equal to about 1320 min (22h). At Comex we had the same...

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

DDM, thank you for your reply. As I said to Akimbo, it’s hard for me to imagine that one hour of decompression was probably enough to keep him alive despite the very long decompression time prescribed by a decompression table. What do you mean with “+1 on analogies to old-time caisson workers.”

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

The place was decompressed from 15,7 m to 0 m in less than an hour. The exact time is unknown and can as well be in less than half an hour. No stops were made during this decompression.

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

That explosive decompression happened on the Byford Dolphin rig in the North Sea. 33 hours is the decompression profile that was used by COMEX for an air saturation at 16 m.

Trinidad and Tobago you can have more info in the incident & accident section

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

Of course he won’t explode. This only happened once in 1983, but it was under very specific circumstances and during an explosive decompression at great depth. But when you say he could probably survive it seems a bit surreal to me because after spending all this time at this pressure, the...

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

Unfortunately no, it’s a real case.

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

No recompression treatment possible at that time. The surrounding atmosphere was air contaminated by hydrocarbon gasses and the theoretical PPCO2 was around 25,6 mb.

omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time at 2,57 bars

Hi, I’ve a question for the hyperbaric doctors of this forum which concerns omitted decompression after a VERY long exposure time under pressure. I suppose that a person that was submitted during 14 hours to an absolute pressure of 2,57 bars and is then decompressed within less of an hour to...

Four who died were not trained for Delta P - Trinidad and Tobago

Continued comment 2 It can therefore be said that, even if the dives had been authorized, the chances of success would have been extremely slim to recover more than one living diver, and even more if the upper extension of the B6 riser had also been installed since from that moment on, no...

Four who died were not trained for Delta P - Trinidad and Tobago

Question: By removing this flange, did the ICT and the diving company know what they were doing and what the consequences would be? Answer: Apparently not, because even a few hours later the ICT was still asking the dive company to draw up a new rescue dive plan. Question: Was the ICT correct by...

Four who died were not trained for Delta P - Trinidad and Tobago

Hi, to help you to have a better view of the real facts, I’ll give you here below a more precise information on the aftermath of this unfortunate accident. Sorry, as the comment is too long to be published in one single message I’ve split it in 3 parts. A bit more than one year ago, five divers...

    Nord Stream Pipeline Video

Placing explosives bulk charges at 80 m deep can give rise to some problems if you have to do it from the surface, but certainly not if you’re diving from a divers lock out vehicle and for info, the Russians have (also) such small divers lock out vehicles since 1974.

    Nord Stream Pipeline Video

Transferring a charge via a pig in a pressurized pipeline at 170 to 200 bars over 600 km away seems quite unrealistic. Why: 1° the time transfer would have taken at least 16 Hours. 2° there are a variety of types of pigs used today, but they have all the same working principle, that to say...
