Looking to Buy First Underwater Camera

Good luck with that. You budget likely limits you to a used camera. I'd monitor the classified ads here on Scubaboard, or maybe eBay.

Console mounted - old school vs new

My Aladdin Prime was great until it needed a new battery, then it ate them like candy. By the 3rd battery it wouldn't last a week of diving. Read here about similar stuff: Aladin Prime - Problems + Problems Even if I was given a brand new Prime, I would not trust it. In recreational diving...

For Sale oxycheq small aluminum BP - blem $70

Once they are bent, rework is a manual (and expensive) process. No automation. Even if they only took 15min each to hand drill, cut with grinder, and cleanup.. that's $10-$15 dollars in labor. If the shop is busy, that's actaully $20-$30 in opportunity cost. Probably 2x or 3x what it costs...

Kayak Diving - who's doing it?

Does anyone drift dive from a kayak, pulling it along like a huge SMB?

For Sale Nautilus Lifeline - Discontinued version - VHF

Not as I read the FCC FAQ: Ship Radio Stations I think there was a bit of concern and hand wringing about individuals obtaining an MMSI without an actual craft, but I thought that was resolved.

When the thought of taking your mask off underwater just freaks you out

Meh... Those skills aren't really difficult. What I lack is the mindfulness to not nose-exhale (just a little) when I'm busy enjoying the diving.

When the thought of taking your mask off underwater just freaks you out

I have conscious control over those muscles. I have no problems removing my mask for extended periods of time, and practice it with an instructor (solo skill refresher) once in a while. Where I struggle is the unconscious state of those muscles. If I don't pay attention I end up...

Diving Nitrox with a pony bottle - theoretical

I know people do this with the 'spare air', but I didn't know they do it with a pony bottle. Seems like filling a 20cf or 40cf pony bottle would leave you with half a primary tank. I just bought a 20cf pony bottle (delivered to my Mom's place in Florida). It will be going straight to the LDS...

What camera is much better for video than a GoPro for < $2000?

I like the sealife micro series. It is less than $600. It is setup and programmed for underwater use (unlike the gopro). It is in a permanently sealed housing, so there is no risk of flooding! You can add a video light if you want. They take great video with better colors.

Is 16 dives in 3 days too aggressive?

Think about one of the days doing a 2-tank morning and a 2-tank twilight/night dive.

    Info Optimal Buoyancy Computer

I've incorporated your feedback into my plan. Finally getting to the pool this Saturday to take all these measurements. I delayed because I've been loosing 4lbs/week (almost 70 lbs so far), and I wanted to be closer to my November vacation weight to make things as accurate as possible. I'll...

    geo2 screen defect

I do not know where you dive. Many places (resorts and liveaboards) require a dive computer. If you can afford a Vivioactive, you can afford an i300 or Mares Puck. Personally, I would avoid tables unless I had equipment failure during a vacation. Considering how much money scuba costs...

    Food near BHB?

Howdy all! I'm driving down from Daytona next month for a late evening BHB dive. Where should I go for late lunch (early dinner) nearby? I don't want fancy, but I do want good. I'm flexible on the type of food. I don't get much good Cuban food where I live, so that would be of interest...

A word to the wise when dealing with any enforcement authority...

Um... I didn't tilt or fuss or argue. I just don't think the German TSA agent should have yell at me for doing exactly what I was previously told to do. And if you don't ever tilt or argue or fuss at something ridiculous, they never get fixed. Granted, there is a time and place, and a TSA or...

A word to the wise when dealing with any enforcement authority...

Hi Zef! Generally I agree with what you've sad. My biggest frustration is the inconsistency I've experienced. I take the time to check on security and customs rules when I travel, but I can't tell you the number of times they simply don't jive with what happens. Additionally, from one trip...
