POLL: What was your first dive computer and would you buy it again?

Suunto Zoop works great. Yes, I would buy another. Price was right and it has been perfectly reliable to date. (probably just jinxed myself)

Testing oral inflate as part of kit setup or buddy check ...

Yup, you just never know. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. :chuckle:

Testing oral inflate as part of kit setup or buddy check ...

I always orally inflate my BCD prior to diving. Keeps me from using gas from my cylinder to fill the BCD. Just a habit that I have adopted.

    Benefit of Nitrox?

You are truly a wise man. I thought the reg was a bit uncomfortable. ;)

    Benefit of Nitrox?

OMG....LOL OK, lets keep it going. I got nitrox certified about 3 years ago. Once I started using nitrox, my hemorrhoids began flaring up more often. I would like a scientific dissertation on this phenomenon. Thanks.

    Benefit of Nitrox?

The OP asked a simple question about nitrox use. He/she did not ask for a scientific dissertation on nitrox. This incessant pissing contest on these boards is why, I for one, visit less and less. A simple question becomes an all out war of words over nothing. Get a grip.

    Benefit of Nitrox?

The benefit for me, is when I dive repetitive dives. I have a shorter SI and longer bottom times. I don't use nitrox on a regular basis, just in the afore mentioned situation.

How often do you "Plan your dive, dive your plan"? Preliminary Survey Results

Every time I dive no matter the site....I plan my dive and dive my plan. I use my tables and obey the NDLs. That's the way I was trained to dive. I can think of no reason to push my luck, you only have so much luck, and at some point it may run out. You can read about divers that run out of...

having a knife with you all the time?

I carry either a .45 ACP or a .357 Mag. on the streets. The question was about knives.

having a knife with you all the time?

I have a knife mounted on my BCD, so when diving I always have a knife. I don't carry a knife on the streets.

    Sneezing

Never sneezed myself. Coughed a few times.

    Repairing a sausage

If you got good service out of the sausage....I would just buy another one. They aren't that expensive.

    Raped for repair?

I just had my Mikron and Octo serviced it cost me $90, including shipping. I send mine to a factory authorized repair/service shop, not my LDS.

    Question about dive school pricing.

I would not be worried about a fixed price. For example, the school I went through was $250, including book charts etc... with a $75 rebate on the class for buying your boots, fins, mask, and mouth piece from the shop. The shop has its own pool, so no extra cost there, be carful of that...

Sharks, how do they view a solo diver vs a pair of divers?

One diver is an appetizer, two divers is a meal. I just hate when they get sucked up in a tornado, "OH HELL NO."

    Certifying children

When you play loose and easy with the rules, for diving or any other risky sport, sometimes you roll snake eyes. Would the son have been able to help the father? Maybe, maybe not. At 120 feet a quick ascent could mean a trip to the chamber, or worse, depending on previous dive depths, gas...

blackmailed into spending more money to get certification

Never heard of such a thing as "special dives." Sounds like a shake down for more cash. I was certified through SSI, and had no such problem. Well at least you haven't arose to a horses head in your bunk yet.

Low hanging of tanks, is this a specific fashion, ignorance, or normal?

I line my 1st stage with the collar/top of my BCD. I have not hit my head on it, I can easily reach the valve, and I can maintain a very nice horizontal position. That is the way my instructor taught me to do it. Maybe other instructors use a different style....I just don't think I would be...
