Sounds like the shop had a bunch of old but never used hoses that they couldn't get rid of.
You might want to check your IP to make sure you are not overpressurizing the hoses. Although, that would most likely cause your second stages to free flow if it was excessively high.
I get my hoses...
I think they are OK reliability wise now. Just don't buy a used one older than 2017.
The choice is yours depending on your personal preferences for cost, color, external feel, and flexibility.
My personal preference is Piranha Ultraflex. They are smooth on the outside like rubber but very...
One feature I like about hoses from Piranha is that they stamp a date on the hose fitting so it is easy to know how old the hose is.

You can actually feel the difference between the 2 springs with your fingers gently compressing the springs.
There are 2 unconventional ways to adjust the cracking effort for 1085 second stages.
1 -Increasing or decreasing the IP of the first stage.
2 -Using extreme care, gently manually...
The 1/2 inch hose thing was a sales gimmick that didn't last long with Aqualung. Unless you are doing very deep or very high flow testing, you will not notice any difference using the 3/8 inch adapter. Using the adapter gives you many more options for hose type, length and availability...
Probably not as long as the silicone seems to be undamaged, flexible but not too soft.
More important is that the mating surface on the box be clean and smooth. I have seen valves stuck to the box with salt and corrosion.
On the other hand, the valves are really cheap and readily available...
I used an earlier version of this light in the past. It is small and pretty robust.

Mounting any light right against the camera solves your bulkyness problem but will produce a lot of backscatter. You need to figure out...
Buying used gear from private individuals is risky. You could be stuck with a reg that was damaged from neglect or a bad servicing in the past and is no longer fixable. This can happen to the best, most expensive regulators. You definitely would want to get any privately purchased regulator...
OP was asking about medical O2 tanks he got for free (not scuba tanks filled with 100%). Your solution is good for you but may be beyond what is needed by the OP (or maybe not).
Keep in mind that giving the highest concentration of oxygen causes the highest rate of off gassing of nitrogen.
Best practice for dive related medical emergencies is to give 100% oxygen and have enough for the time it would take to hand off to other emergency providers.
Next best is to give...
Medical O2 tanks don't fail hydro often unless they were abused (dropped hard).
CGA 870 is a standard for pin configuration for small O2 tanks. All medical O2 regulators for portable tanks should fit.

The one suggestion I have for the old chrome 1085s is to use extreme caution if you decide to remove the exhaust T. They get really hard and brittle with age. Some people have had success softening them by soaking in very hot water. I just never take them off anymore. It is possible to change...
And pass VIP. No significant rust, pits, thread damage and tank not gouged, bent or bowed.
Be aware that some really old steel tanks may require unusual valve thread sizes that may be harder to find if you need to replace a valve.
