Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

I prefer to set up my gear myself. However in Asia we visited a quite a few places/resorts where the staff does it for you. We found out it is better to just let them do it and then double check yourself. They always seem a bit insulted if you set up your own gear, it is part of their job.

Question Which double tank size + which type of wing?

If your goal in the end is doing more technical diving then my suggestion would be to start diving with the setup you eventually intend to use. That would mean buying a D12. Handling the weight shouldn’t be too much a problem, even I can manage fine most of the time and I am just a 1.60m tall...

    Lending Gear yay or nay

I Answered yes. However I must say that I don't lend gear to just everyone, only a select group of fellow (tech) divers. It's usually about a set of doubles, stages, regs., stuff like that. Should I need an extra stage I, can always lend one too without questions asked.

Question Drysuit Heating. Which valves should I get?

From what I have heard (from a shop owner) the Ammonite is indeed the better choice. Already had Santi as the Ammonite valves weren't available yet when I got my suit but should I need a new one I would switch to Ammonite. After multiple issues with the Santi valve we could get the cable...

DIR- GUE Progression of classes - Tech / Cave

I did Cave 1 before Tech 1 as I am personally more a cave diving person. The most important reason I took Tech 1 anyway is so that now (after passing Cave 2) I have the option to do tech dives in caves. If you think you will enjoy the wrecks more then I would say start with Tech 1. If it's a...

DIR- GUE GUE DPV class: Experiences? Worth it? What do you learn?

I have done the GUE DPV class and I was very happy that I did. Already had some experience with a DPV beforehand but still learned a lot. Topics covered: - Skills such as S-drills, valve drills with a DPV positioned between your legs - Basis skills such as maneuvering the DPV, team positioning...

One-hand or two-hand valve drills (back mount doubles)

Can you please explain? In case of a failure there is plenty of time to identify which post has failed, signal your teammates and in the meanwhile close the post. It takes quite some time for a set of doubles to lose all of its air, no need to stress out. Better to maintain buoyancy and (in a...

    Dutch scuba fans?

Succes!

DIR- Generic GUE possible with Y crotch strap with 6 D-Rings?

It is true that for a Tech pass the equipment requirements are different (doubles etc.) but it is possible to get a Rec pass when you take Fundies in the "Tech configuration".

DIR- Generic GUE possible with Y crotch strap with 6 D-Rings?

There is no such thing as a provisional Rec or a provisional Tech outcome. You can either fail, get a provisional or pass. The latter with either a Rec or Tech rating. If you get a provisional you have 6 months to try to pass. Should you pass with a Rec rating you can try to upgrade to Tech...

    Dutch scuba fans?

Anders eindigen mijn polsen/armen altijd nat.

DIR- GUE Why is wing dump valve on left?

You can switch to your second (backup) regulator (assuming you are using doubles of course). However I think a better solution would be to disconnect the LP hose because otherwise you'll lose the ability to donate air.

Worth still doing Peak Performance Buoyancy after AOW?

You can't really compare Fundies to OW. Fundies is designed for people with already (some) experience that want to improve their skills or, like myself, see it as the first step into technical diving. I also don't see how OW + buoyancy + AOW can be a lot less expensive then Fundies or Rec 1 (but...

TDI - Intro to Tech - Necessary?

GUE has no issues with backup computers and / or bottom timers. But if we carry one it is recommended to put it in the (right) pocket instead of on your wrist. Also, there is no GUE police to tell you what and what not to do once you finished a course. As long as you dive within your limits of...
