Question Is a Mk25 overkill for recreational tropical water dives?

Be excited. That's a great reg set that should last you forever (if properly taken care of), and breathe beautifully (tuned correctly).

    Question Argonaut Kraken Owner

Not a Kraken owner, but I tinker on a number of doublehose regs including the Royal Aqua Master (grandfather of sorts to the Kraken). As @kevjli mentioned, parts are readily available and it is easy to work on. The basic design is pretty bulletproof. As to diving it, DH regs have a couple...

MK10 Rebuilding Mods and Best Practices

I believe the shims are nylon. Regarding the printed ones, it would just be endurance/torture testing.... Use them, cycle the reg a lot, open up and inspect them, do it some more. Monitoring for IP shif frequently. Just seemed unnecessary at the time when VDH was still a going concern and the...

MK10 Rebuilding Mods and Best Practices

Couv (RIP) bench tested some I printed for him a few years ago.... They worked, but he had doubts about there longevity (the constant spring pressure might do them in). So we didn't pursue it further, so it's still a question mark. Respectfully, James

Will an older 72 cu. steel tank take a modern K regular valve?

The Mar-Vel valve still has the j-valve assembly (lever opposite the knob). I'd check it for function, and run it in as the second tank with the 3/4 valve (I presume you mean to use them side mount). When the lever is up, it holds back a certain pressure (depending on the j-valve 250-500 psi)...

    Bright Weights for BP/W

Like @lexvil said, there are better and easier ways. I would (and personally do) just get a simple one piece harness, and for tropical/thin wetsuit stuff about 8 to ten pounds of lead in 2lb hard weights. A 2 pound weight will stay put on an upper cam band "tail" or you can thread a couple...

Will an older 72 cu. steel tank take a modern K regular valve?

I have a 1/2 NPS tank and dive it regularly....if the tanks pass hydro and vis, there's no reason not to put them in service. I even acquired a spare valve to rebuild as a standby in case the one in it ever gets beyond rebuilding. Also, if the J valves mechanism is good then it is still a...

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

MK10 Rebuilding Mods and Best Practices

In this usage, lockup is referring to how a crisp, repeatable stop at the IP it's set for. Looking at your IP gauge, if you purge the second stage you'll see IP drop some while it's purging, and pop back up when you let off the purge. A good, crisp lock up is when it jumps from its lower...

MK10 Rebuilding Mods and Best Practices

IP creep, generally. If IP is mushy (i.e. goes to 135 immediately then slowly to 140 over a couple seconds and stops there) that could be knife edge imperfections or break in of a new seat (amongst some other possible culprits). But if the IP is slowly continuing to rise and doesn't stabilize...

    Building a Pony

Incidentally, I sling mine on my right front when I use it (shoulder d ring and hip d ring) to take advantage of existing muscle memory. I gather that most sling on the left side. Regardless, the critical thing is to practice with the configuration you use so it becomes muscle memory.

    Building a Pony

Mine is... Do to other training I already have a trained muscle memory for grabbing the second stage, extending my arm to pull the hose out of the bungies, and plugging it into my face. It's on a 28 inch hose that swivels at the first stage end, and the ball bungies make it easy to re-stow...

To the OPs point about vintage gear on a pony, when I use one it's an AL19 with Conshelf VI slung l. Respectfully, James

    Which regs should I keep?

No worries, lol. If I had a dollar for every time I misread something I'd retire! I don't figure that Conshelfs are "better" than modern regs... More that modern regs don't offer enough beyond them to justify price (or lack of chrome!). Connie's seem to do all I need and more, so I'm gonna...

    Which regs should I keep?

I'm not sure where it looked that way... If it did then it wasn't my intent! I plan on running Conshelfs (old chrome ones) in my household for decades to come. Respectfully, James

    Wing Size for 10yo

I may not be as much help as @rhwestfall thought... I'm a little extreme on the diy side and all our bpw's are home made; DIY Wing Evolution I actually haven't owned a "factory" wing, so I can't properly compare. If you want to go that road, it's actually not that difficult... The blue/white...

    The New Atomic TFX

Rob, I have a few "due out"s in the works (slowed down with work and some health issues), but I haven't forgotten. If you send me the thread spec for the top cover I'll get the tool sorted and send you and one other (who is waiting patiently on me for a TFX tool) a copy for beta testing. If...
