Good dive light that won't break the bank

I bought one of the earlier chinese lights (started looking at end of season 2 years ago and finally bought me a MJ850 1200lm version) After first issues with my lamp I got one (on guarantee) that works like a charm. I now have done 8 dives since last recharge and no issues since mid last year...

    Flood or Strobe

Both. ;) but I dont have strobe yet. Instead I still use a standard divelight with a home made diffusor. Seems to work pretty good and is a cheap solution. The issue of not giving enough light is solved with the new LED lights with 2000+ lumen. (introduces a number of other issues though, like...

Which GoPro or other device to get?

or .. check out the new contenders like the German Infinity if you dont mind me trolling. There seem to get some alternatives available to GoPro. Anyone got any experience with the CamoneTec thingy with any filters / underwater?Maurice

    other charities?

Hi TSandM, Seems a lot of projects are more or less the same thing. I like the whole approach of Sylvia Earle with her Mission Blue a bit better, because it does not only focus on divers but takes the angle of global oceanic issues like depletion and mismanagement. Anyway, it is not about "my...

    other charities?

Did anyone mention anything related to Sylvia Earle already? Her Alliance and her Mission Blue are something to mention ... also check out her speech at TED in 2009. I just published more of this on my blog.

Need help deciding on first camera

So why limit to GoPro when you are choosing an actioncam? I am now thinking of buying an CamOneTec camera. See the website for CamOneTec. Does anyone have experience with this smaller version of the Gopro setup? It seems to have some advantage over the Gopro version (smaller, lighter, with lcd...

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

Thanks again Michael. Since you are more familiar with the market (in Germany, if I am correct): Did you come across many different models/versions? (have you got a list of versions?) Did you have any similar requests being processed to updates? (frosted glass option) Did anyone use...

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

Hi all, I return to this thread to inform you on the mail discussion I had with the producer of this lamp. I have had a chain of mails on how focussed the light is and how unpleasant that is when taking photo's with it... after a couple of months of mailing and discussion they have shown me...

    New light on DealExtreme

I wouldn't just go for the highest advertised Lumen... I dont really trust the 1200lumen version anymore...

    New light on DealExtreme

Indeed Adam, that is one wicket light. It is not 1000Lumens btw... the model was 900Lm before.. I 've posted on the bigger brother of this light... the MJ-850. (1200 lumen they say) Great light, with some problems... If you like taking a bit of risk... I would advise such a light. It...

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

It took a while. This weeks update is about how it returned...: I have the lamp in my possession again... The factory repaired and sent the lamp to me quite quickly. Within days it was on the flight back to Europe and after some Customs issues I now have my lamp and tested it to 9.5m and 10+...

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

Quick update on the MJ850 saga: The lamp has cleared China Customs... it might actually arrive at the factory in Shenzhen. I'll party when it returns... but this seems to be another BIG step in the whole process of getting something repaired in China.

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

Hi micbu, You should have responded earlier... as in before I sent the thing to China ;) I probably would have been able to repair the lamp myself. Can I already order a PCB with you, just to be sure that when (/IF) the lamp returns I have some vital spares?:D Thanks for sharing, though...

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

Still waiting for it, Beekeeper5, I was a bit late sending this to China... Tracking information says the package is in China (since 9-5) but not yet delivered. I guess it is on some sort of old cart being transported by a donkey... to end up at an old shack .. but it's not there yet. I will...

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

OK.. next report: I just sent the MJ850 to the manufacturer after some mail discussions with them. Now tension increases, will they actually repair the light and return it? Place your bets please!:D More to follow.

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

Thanks GCBryan, Good to hear I am not the only one with problems, although these are different, I guess. I'll have the batteries tested with some load as well... I might actually be able to swap parts with someone else, to exclude this from the list. Cheers!

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

Thanks Beekeeper, I'll use one of the multimeters I already have... but as I said, I don't think it is the batteries. I am now about to decide to open the lamp myself and check out what is the defect or send it to China... I might have found a parts reseller. I think that about evens out the...

MJ850 - cheap. Too good to be true?

It did not flood... changing the batteries is a bit hard, as this one comes with rechargable 3.6 V powersources... I had them recharged and tested again, obviously without any success. I will check the batteries a bit further, but I expect them to be in good working condition. Any more...
