    Low budget options

I agree with Luko, as long as you pick a reliable operator, why not try Komodo? Aside from PPB, you can try the deep/night/drift courses, but these you can do at the sites. From Ohio, you can consider transit at JFK/EWR. Got cousin in Columbus who would take only SQ or Cathay direct to...

    Low budget options

Depends on your skills and confidence level, Komodo or Raja Ampat LOB is possible even for beginners. Take that extra classes on PPB for sure. 2 weeks with $5K can also get you fewer dive but in a very nice resort (I recommend Komodo Dive Resort at Sebayur island, or Plataran Komodo).

Your packing & general liveaboarding tips for upcoming Raja Ampat LoB

Hi, I did Raja Ampat LOB 2x and these are the things not mentioned by others I found very useful: - big sturdy clothes pins to keep your suit and clothes blown away by the wind. I'd brought half a dozen and people would borrow it all the time. I left it with the boat afterward - Coconut oil...

    Skin problems when diving

That's a good idea, although I probably will keep it in pocket when underwater. Cheers

    Skin problems when diving

The Chairman, did you actually carry the hat while underwater??? That's really cool :)

Help me get my travel weight down

I met this UW photographer in a liveaboard who carried a giant padded diaper backpack for his camera gears. The airline allowed him to claim it as a carry on. He checked in a medium size suitcase for his dive gears etc. His buddy brought a padded cooler bag for his camera gears & a carry on...

    Skin problems when diving

I have similar problems and the culprit is the sunscreen in my case. My pores get clogged so badly, I end up with painful acne afterward. Doctor has diagnosed me with extremely sensitive skin and told me best to avoid sun, makeup, and sunscreen :( No easy solution, best method is to improve...

    skinsuit bottoms (swim tights?)

I second on Athleta surfing pant. They are very durable and quick dry too. I have one that's 3 years old and still maintain its shape.

    Dealing with long hair

Took some of the advice from this topic, and it worked really well in my last trip. I have long hair with bangs and layers, and tight bandana was not good enough. First thing first, I do sideswept bang braid, have it secured with elastic band, then tugged it behind my ear, then make one whole...

What's in your scuba "go bag"?

If I have to be super minimalist, these are my non negotiable items: - Dr. Bronners liquid soap (for face, body, even mouthwash) - Avene water mist (to replace toner & moisturizer) - Sunblock - Baby shampoo travel size (for cleaning my mask) - Hair/Vitamin E oil in capsules - Sunglasses I dive...

    Bali suggestions?

Try Nusa Lembongan. Beautiful beach/cliff views, plenty of nice resorts, and dive centers everywhere. And most importantly it is family friendly, with plenty of activities for non divers.

Raja Ampat LOB with solar eclipse viewing

I am so glad I wrote this post Great information from everyone, and makes it so much easier for me to decide. I definitely prefer LOB over land base for Raja Ampat, and it sounds like a great timing to go there in March. Wisnu, thanks. If my buddy still prefers the solar eclipse, then we will...

Raja Ampat LOB with solar eclipse viewing

It's a long shot, but has anyone come across LOB tour offer with 2016 solar viewing? There will be few places in Indonesia where you can see the solar eclipse: Palu (Sulawesi), Ternate/Tidore (N Maluku), Palembang (Sumatra), and Belitung (Sumatra). I found 2 tour operators based in Europe so...

    Reef hook or not?

It's not a lifesaver, but I was glad I brought one to R4. Some used their tank bangers instead. My upper body is not too strong, so the reef hook helped.

Fins that'll fit in my bag

Just want to add another vote for Aeris Accel fins. The best feature for me is how lightweight they are compared to my old Gull XXX. It may not give me a strong propulsion push, but it was good enough for mild to medium current. I love my Gull fins, but it was made of heavy rubbers that keep...

How to delay your period beside taking pills

Hey all, Sorry for the late follow up as work & day-to-day got in the way. Thanks so much for some of the helpful advice. Seems like birth control pills to be the best solution ;) @SubMariner - I had to reschedule bcs we planned to visit the national park to see the giant komodo lizards. These...

How to delay your period beside taking pills

Just out of curiousity and for future reference, does anyone have recommendation on how to delay your periods, preferably in more natural way? Took Primolut N (norethisterone), which worked fine. Unfortunately I was extremely uncomfortable the whole time (continuous bloating and bad migraines)...

    Flores - Komodo Diving

Hey just want to share my experience a bit. We stayed in Komodo Resort in Sebayur island for one week back in early March. It was low season, right in middle of rain/full moon season. Having said that, I'd come back again. The dive experience was fantastic, the bungalow was very nice (not super...

    Pulau Weh dive photos

Thanks for the recommendation. I went with LumbaLumba DC one week before Christmas last year. It was as travelem said, the DC was very organized and clean. The staffs helped with cleaning the gears after each dive and they did really good jobs. The DMs and crews were very professional and...
