Hi all, haven't been on here in a loooong while. Mostly gotten out of diving, but definitely gotten out of UW photography with the SLR rig. So the whole kit (minus camera) is available. Best offer. I know these will be low offers and that's fine, as I'm not sure everything works (and I know...

Tonga in August on Naia: What to do after the trip for 3 days?

So I'm going to Tonga on Nai'a in August to see the humpbacks, yay!!! Because of the way the flights are, I have three days after the trip before my "Travel home" day. There seem to be two good choices of what to do those three days: 1. Go to the surf resort out at the end of the main island...

    Singapore airport help

Hypertexas, whether United will check your bag onto the Silk Air flight depends on whether or not United has a "baggage agreement" (I think that's what they called it) with Silk Air/Singapore Air. Call United and ask them that specific question, and after they run around awhile looking it up...

    Pindito Liveaboard

Followup Pindito Questions for those who have been on it: 1. They haven't gotten a/c yet in the salon, have they? 2. From the pictures, it looks like they take your bc and regs off your tank after every dive and take the tanks to the compressor room. Is this correct? 3. If I have...

Mosquitos on Liveaboard in Raja Ampat?

Going on Pindito next month (February) to Raja Ampat. Wondering what experience everybody has had out there with mosquitos at different times of year. When I went before (May) there weren't any mosquitos out and about (that we noticed anyway). Cheers. Susan

Similans LAB: Queen Scuba or Pawara

I dove 2 weeks straight on Pawara (but this was back in Nov/Dec 2007 - 2 years ago now). The boat is HUGE. So that's a plus. However, at the time anyway, it wasn't really set up for uw photographers, if you happen to be one. And while I had a fantastic time, not everybody loved it as much as...

    Singapore airport help

Anybody have any experience checking from LAX (or anywhere) through to Manado (or anywhere else really) on EVA/Silk connection in Singapore? Should I just make res at both Crowne Plaza (I have a full night) and Transit hotel, wait and see if EVA will check it through at LAX, and then cancel...

    Alternatives to Canon NB-5L Batteries???

Thought of something else to add - I got Duracell brand batteries for my 5D, and they work splendidly, at least as good as the Canons. Don't know if Duracell makes batteries for your camera, but if they do, you might try them.

    Alternatives to Canon NB-5L Batteries???

I got some generic batteries from Amazon for my g10 (Power2000 - I would guess they probably make batteries for other cameras as well). Read the amazon reviews and the people seemed happy with them. I actually did a huge semi-scientific comparison because I was buying a bunch of them for a 16...

Take my spot TONIGHT on 3 day Conception Trip

Hi All. I was signed up for the 3 day labor day trip on the Conception this weekend (leaves tonight, 4am, returns Monday afternoon), but unfortunately I tweaked out my back and can't go. Anybody want to go in my place? Price would be free or whatever -- shop won't give me a refund this...

    Cheap... eBay drysuit undergarments

I rented the DUI Powerstretch 300 fleece, and then I ended up buying the 2 layer arctic fleece from Ron. The DUI is thinner, but denser. I'd estimate that the double layer fleece Ron-gear is probably at least 1.5x as thick as the DUI 300 (which is also double layer) in the air. But it's...

Compilation: Ways to Flood a Camera

I've also heard of another brand of housing flooding at the port attachment alot - can't remember which one it is though. It's one where (I think???) you have to put the port in and then rotate it a few degrees or something. In any case it just makes it more important to do the complete a__...

Compilation: Ways to Flood a Camera

Catherine and Mike, do you mean where the dome attaches to the stalk, or where the stalk attaches to the housing? I've seen a couple of ike housings flood through the port attachment point - it's pretty hard to get the port seated properly (I have to apply a lot of pressure), and pretty easy to...

    Similans

Hi StevenI. Yup, guilty as charged, non-resident. You may have more data averaged over more seasons than me, I was just there for awhile. Yeah, on my 3 trips tours, all three stoped at Koh Bon (2 on one boat, 1 on another). Since there weren't any Mantas there yet our season, it was a nice...

    Similans

What I think people are telling you is "Don't stay in Phuket and do day trips". Ditto what Bowmouth said. There are quite a number of 6 day cruises, those are great. (I did three back to back . . . and like somebody said, never got tired of it). For choosing a boat, a good bet is to...

Best time of year for wetsuit deals?

Is there a particular time of year when the shops or online distributors put wetsuits on sale? I'm looking to get a new one, but have about a year before the tropical trip that I'm getting it for. Aside from going into my LDS and asking "How much is it now?" every week, any advice? I've...
