Critique my Sidemount Trim and configuration

and btw: the Razor is not designed around aluminum tanks at all. It is strictly designed to be used with any common type of tank and that includes steel tanks.

Critique my Sidemount Trim and configuration

Ditching the weights is a good recommendation.

    Weighting

Of course it is! That's one of the reasons many people experienced in frequent equipment change or sidemount tryouts recommend doing the weight check 'at the end of the dive' instead of saying 'enter the water with an empty tank'. In a wetsuit it may be knowlege of debatable value, in a drysuit...

    Weighting

It is a normal 'rule of thump' that for the weighting to be correct you should have to fight a bit to get submerged innitially. At the end of the dive every hidden air pocket should have dissolved and every compressable material has been squeezed enought to completely fill with water. Weigths...

Critique my Sidemount Trim and configuration

You are facing a common problem with the Hollis rig. The tank attachmet is loose and does not pull the tank tight. Weighting the tanks is a common solution, but it does not work well in every situation/position. You demontrate well the effect of overcompensation in your video: Since you have...

    Entries through breaking waves.

With a sidemount config you do not really have the single tank option, because it would unbalance you against the waves when standing up. You can use small tanks, however. The main advantage sidemount offers is to me that the tanks reach the water much earlier than when carried on ones back...

    Entries through breaking waves.

No, sorry, never had anyone with me with a camera not struggling with the waves himself. We rarely get really rough waters and most people do not dive then and neither go to the shore with a camera.

    Top 5 Warm-Water Sidemount Fins

Because it has become the most recommended Sidemount fin in existence ;) It is light, neutrally buoyant, versatile, flexible, the only disadvantage is it's length (but: length equals power). It can take strong current, but is also extremely accurate with small movements. It is also hard to...

    Entries through breaking waves.

It helps to take the wave sideways, you have a slimmer profile then. The tanks need to be attached 'somehow' in rough waters, but there is absolutely no danger of them 'hitting' you anywhere then.

    Entries through breaking waves.

I prefer walking in with tanks attached or put them on as soon as the water is knee-deep. So more or less: walk in, put on first fin, drop into horizontal position, put on second fin already kicking and go out hugging the seafloor.

    Top 5 Warm-Water Sidemount Fins

A list like that not including the Mares Avanti Quattro looks a bit 'incomplete'.

    Bad habits in sidemount?

I think there is a primary bad habit to avoid during sidemount training: overconfident diving. Normal restrictions for beginning rec divers mostly do not apply: You have enough gas to do several dives on a single set of tanks, you never have to be scared by any type of equipment malfunction...

Do you have to defend your sidemount setup?

Sadly you can meet those internet divers in real life later. Has been a horrible experience for me on most occasions (with several exceptions, but also some exceptionally horrible cases). With divers you do not know from the internet it is ok, but it becomes harder the more experienced you get...

Sidemount and helmets in open water

Yes, but in my case I always dislocate the GoPro, often enough on decent. It also runs out of juice before the dive ends most of the time, even with the extrenal battery attached. I always get excessively angry realizing the camera caught a lot of empty water and missed the thing I was...

    Gas Management With Sidemount

You must have giant tanks if that is true ;) To be off by 400psi with that tank size would be close to impossible with frequent switches. I would perhaps do 6 switches (with my 19liters I switch more than once every 10 or 15 bar, less than half a pound of maximum weight change) for every switch...

    Staging Regs For Sidemount

MK21 is a non-turreted first stage guys ;) The way he is doing it is quite normal, especially with an over-the-shoulder inflator.

    Gas Management With Sidemount

Preparing means taking the amount of gas you need for the planned dive profile and any kind of plausible unplanned exertion. With the right 'preparation' spgs are used to double-check on a status you already know.

    Gas Management With Sidemount

You are misunderstanding what I am saying @PhatD1ver. Any rigid system can 'break', not having one cannot. For example: any routine you might have developed is broken on decent as soon as you add a third tank. There is no real reason why you should not switch regs several times in any...

Best Sidemount System For Cold Water Diving

Of course aluminums are one of the optimal choices - always, almost. They work best when used as third to sixth tank, that makes them optimal to own in my book.

    Gas Management With Sidemount

Reports, yes, but with a measuring tolerance of a few percent. Anyway: on an normal spg you can count yourself lucky or have a very good eyesight to guess with more than 5bar tolerance. I personally dislike air integration enough to not even consider it and it would only enable me to do...
