and after Raja Ampat ... ???

After three fantastic trips to RA (sorry) it's time to dive elsewhere. But where to go - French Polynesia, Palau or other parts of Micronesia, or .....? We'd like to see big stuff, especially whalesharks, hammerhead or other sharks, plus warm water and good vis. Not really into wrecks, muck...

    Raja Ampat Liveaboard Advice Request

Yes, we were on the Ambai in January 2018. liked it a lot - great crew, good food, spacious cabins. Akim was a great cruise director. She's a wooden boat and creaks a lot while travelling which disturbed some light sleepers. I'd go on her again without hesitation.

Land Based Diving Options Raja Ampat?

You can gain time by asking your liveavoard to drop you at your chosen resort. We arrived (twice) at Papua Explorers like this - felt very cool!

    Komodo LOB review

Dove RA on the Ambai in January 2018. Akim was a great cruise director, the crew were a joy to travel with, the boat is spacious and comfortable, the food varied between OK and excellent. I'd recommend it unless you're a light sleeper - the boat creaks and cracks loudly when travelling at night!

    Raja Ampat advice

Papua Explorers every time. It is simply perfect. In fact, we've just booked to go back there for the third time!

    Raja Ampat in February

Check out Papua Explorers on Gam (northern RA). Much cheaper than Misool Eco. We were there in late 2016 and loved it so much that we're going back next week. :yeahbaby:

    Raja Live-a-Board recommendation

Shastaman, How do you go about reconfirming flights ? How long before the flights ? We have internal flights booked with Garuda, Lion (multiple flights) and Express, do you recommend that we reconfirm all these ?

Sorong Jakarta Safe Layover Time Before International

I'm also researching this route at the moment. With our international flight leaving Jakarta at 19.25, the Garuda flight gives us less than three hours layover which seems to be a bit tight. Would the Sriwijaya flight give us enough time (5 and a half hours if it arrives on time)? Express Air...

Togean islands - worth the effort?

Thank you Gilles, that's really helpful. "Surgical diving" - great expression! - would account for the very different reports of reef damage that we have read. Wisnu, it seems that Black Marlin is also opening a resort on Una Una this year. All in all, it's looking like we're going to have to...

Video Highlights From Raja Ampat Trip

Awesome, Mike! We'll be there in November - can't wait!

Togean islands - worth the effort?

Thanks, Wisnu. Great pix. It looks like that reports we've read of dead and dynamited coral in the Togean aren't accurate. Can you compare the diving there with Bangka, Bunaken or Raja Ampat?

Togean islands - worth the effort?

We are planning our first trip to Indonesia in November. We will definitely be diving north Sulawesi and RA (tee hee :-) ) Is it worth the time and effort to go to the Togean Islands as well?

    Another Raja Ampat thread

Thanks for the great film, Mike. We've booked a trip to RA in November and we're getting even more excited after watching this!

No 15 litre tanks on Shakti

A warning to anyone who needs a 15 litre tank and is thinking of booking a trip on the Shakti - they do not provide them. In fact, the contact person seems rather indignant at the request, saying "A 15 litre tank is no way ordinary on liveaboards". Fortunately, no other RA liveaboard that we...

Raja Ampat liveaboard - which boat?

Thanks Hintermann. We've just booked on the Seahorse! Mermaid 1 looks lovely but only has 6 day trips going at the time we want to go. We're really excited about diving RA next year :-)

    Andaman diving

We dived with Scubafish from Kantiang Bay on Koh Lanta in January 2015. Good service, lots of different routes. They will also organise accommodation if you wish. You choose which of the southern islands you want to dive each day. Don't miss Hing Daeng/Hin Muan for an awesome day. It's true...

Raja Ampat liveaboard - which boat?

We're planning a 10-12 day liveaboard in Raja Ampat in late 2016. We're not looking for luxury - as long as we've got a private double cabin and enough to eat we'll be happy. We do care about good divemasters/guides and crew, small groups of divers and good rental equipment. At present we're...

Thanks dirtfarmer. I hadn't noticed that I stupidily mis-posted this. Will re-post, hopefully in the right forum!

Raja Ampat liveaboard - which boat?

Hello, We are planning a 10-12 day liveaboard trip to RA in late 2016. We're not into luxury cruising - as long as we have a private cabin and enough to eat, we'll be happy. The quality of the DMs and crew, small diving groups and decent rental gear are more important to us. At present we're...

lavacore suit front or back zip?

Just back from Thailand - loved the lavacore ! Snug and warm under a 3 mm shorty, no problem taking it off, despite the front zip. Our only gripe was that the zip on my buddy's suit broke after a few dives :-( However, with a rear zip wetsuit over it, it was still usable for the rest of the...
