Non-scuba update: I just accepted a job offer yesterday! Very excited to have a meaningful dive budget again.

    confused about prescription masks.

I wear progressive lenses in daily life (I'm also a +1.00 person), but my Rx mask is for my near-vision prescription. I made this decision because I cave-dive and wanted very clear resolution to see the line, work with spools, have enough detail to deal with knots, etc. If you're more of a...

    Juliet repositioning to Turks

I did the 2015 repo trip in the aft ensuite!

Hopping my way to full cave...

They're really mostly-dry suits. If you had less than a cup of wringable water in the wet arm, that's a reasonable success!

Looking for Tech Nitrox Fills In Northern Michigan

    @Tracy, your thoughts/expertise?

@tbone1004 knows that I'm a full-time freshwater diver (Great Lakes, caves), so he's correct.

DIR/GUE/BPW shop or instructor in Maui

Although Meredith isn't going to be in Hawaii this summer, maybe check with Cher at Wet Rocks Diving to see if they can recommend a local instructor from among their previous students?

Quick Reference: SAC & RMV Chart

I brute-forced my way into learning/reinforcing the math for cuft>>>psi conversions over the course of about 5 hours yesterday evening. I initially figured it out by cross-multiplication, but good friend and good buddy @Cr.padlo helped me refactor it into an equation that morphs into an...

That's a very compelling argument after the amount of time I spent working on the PSI conversions for a bunch of different tanks yesterday.

Is Rescue training a turning point in diving perspective?

Absolutely. I had trouble sleeping for three days after Rescue because I was methodico-compulsively reevaluating every decision I had ever made in the water. I think both the class skills and the ongoing reflections made me a better diver in a hurry.

My logic for including 1.5 and 2.0 is for emergencies/air-sharing situations. (I've also been known to blow a 0.95 in Ginnie when I have not done enough cardio prep for a trip, but my personal failings don't need to be recorded in the chart...)

Extra rows and digits are a nice distraction from the howling black void of being done with grad school but not having heard back about my most recent job interview yet!

Quick Reference: SAC & RMV Chart

I'm brushing up on my gas planning math in preparation for my next cave diving trip (coming up in two weeks!). To save some space in my Wet Notes/not need to calculate consumption de novo for each dive, I made a chart of RMV for depths of 20-200ft at SAC rates of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0...

Do you drink the spring water while diving?

Provided that the water is clean, clear, and moving -- yes! Feeling hydrated/not having a dry mouth allows me to feel comfortable and more relaxed, which has a mildly reductive effect on my air consumption.

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

Cold-water divers in drysuits generate more drag, which increases even further for people who are diving doubles or carrying AL40 pony bottles (both common in the Great Lakes). The Quattros just don't have enough propulsion oomph for that much gear. Secondly, drysuit divers are often...

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

    (1) In practical terms, they're unbreakable. You'll never blow a strap and lose a dive. (2) In my experience, they form to my heel a little better and feel more secure.

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

The Mares Avanti Quattro is much-beloved for warm-water diving! Ditch the default straps and go for steel springs.

Suit Filed against Bonne Terre Mine / West End

My recollection is that there are multiple physical entrances to the mind, but West End Diving has the lease to the convenient one. I'd love to see someone else build a shop and infrastructure at one of the other locations and make it accessible for trained cavers.

Diver Claims: 148 dives to 100 ft in one day

Without speculating on the veracity of his claims, I am impressed at the purported integrity of this man's eardrums. My eustachian tubes ache at the mere thought of this.
