Austrian diver fatality- Natal South Africa

From this Article (in German). From interviews with shark scientist Dr. Erich Ritter who examined the body, and with a diver who was on the dive. English summary in my own words: Neue Erkenntnisse zum Tauchunfall in Südafrika - TAUCHEN The deceased was still with the group when they started...

Looking to replace my Zeagle Escape with a travel bp&w. Suggestions?

I had the Oxycheq Ultralite Travel Plate, which is really ultralight, but you sacrifice a bit of stability. I now switched to the DSS Steel/Kydex plate which I am very happy with. I have an Oxycheq 30# wing and a DSS 17# wing, both are great.

Why you should use wool and avoid cotton like the plague

+1 for Icebreaker - I cycle to work every day in the Austrian winter, and use Icebreaker longsleeves and leggins. They are pricey, but I am prone to itching from wool, but not at all with the merino wool from Icebreaker. Woolpower, Smartwool are also good.

    Trim Affected by Water Type?

As I wrote in my comment, this is purely theoretical and will not be noticed by any diver. Still, it is fun to think about (at least for me). Trim depends on differences in buoyancy along the body axis, while buoyancy is directly proportional to the density of the fluid. Therefore, if the...

    Trim Affected by Water Type?

Changing weights between fresh and salt water will obviously influence trim. Apart from that I think that technically, the amount by which you are e.g. foot heavy would change. As a hypothetical example, if you are normally slightly foot heavy and you were to dive in some extremely dense...

    Closest warm water diving

I live in SE Austria, I can drive to Croatia in about 5 hours to dive (south tip of Istria) - and the diving is decent. Food and country are great too. The diving becomes better the further South you go. Otherwise Egypt is the closest 'top' diving destination for me as well.

Crotch strap that is adjustable DURING the dive (no quick release buckle if possible)?

Thanks for your answers, a triglide in the front seems like the best solution. I'll give that a try.

Crotch strap that is adjustable DURING the dive (no quick release buckle if possible)?

I am bony and wear thin exposure protection, so if the BCD rides up, the steel buckle digs into my lower ribcage. If I have the crotch strap too short, it becomes uncomfortable - I like it 'just right', but it takes me several dives to adjust it for new exposure protection, as I can only adjust...

Crotch strap that is adjustable DURING the dive (no quick release buckle if possible)?

I thought about cutting the webbing and putting a steel buckle in there (probably on the back side), is this stupid?

Crotch strap that is adjustable DURING the dive (no quick release buckle if possible)?

I dive a BP/wing (DSS backplate, Oxycheq wing), and I am very anal about having my crotch strap exactly the right length. Therefore I am searching for a crotch strap that I could adjust during the dive. I saw the Halcyon quick adjust strap, but I am not sure if this could be adjusted during the...

DSS backplate and Oxycheq wing - do they fit together?

I own an Oxycheq Mach V 30# wing, and I am thinking of ordering a DSS long pattern backplate, either steel or kydex, maybe even both. As I live in Austria, I would like to make sure they actually fit together before I order it - does anybody have any experience? I would not like to use a STA, if...

What is happening to the Moray Eels?

Yeah, those are giant moray eels (G. javanicus) I think. I must say I'm not an expert either, just a lot of dives in that area. :-)

What is happening to the Moray Eels?

I don't think you are seeing green morays in the Indopacific, but without any photos it's hard to guess which ones you mean.

What is happening to the Moray Eels?

Which species do you consider to be a "Green Moray"? Maybe Gymnothorax javanicus, Gymnothorax flavimarginatus or Gymnothorax fimbriatus?
