My indepth review of the Hollis NeoTek Semi-Dry

Oh yes, NC, fine once I got to depth (in Summer months) would have gotten warm quick had I stayed near the surface.

My indepth review of the Hollis NeoTek Semi-Dry

Probably already answered...but here goes. I have been using it extensively on dives since I purchased it, from off the coast of NC to the Saint Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. Summary: Temps: 35F and below....don't do it. 35-40F 20-30 minutes, 41 to 65F, pleasant!, 66-75F, ok, but watch...

    Combining Palau with...Yap? Truk? ???

It's been a bit and I just noticed this. I loved the trip to Truck and will be going again in 2017. Unfortunately, we never made it to Palau because of Typhoon Maysek, but I'd be happy to discuss Odyssey and Truck with you.

Non professional divers taking very young children diving (even in a pool)

I think the guy might have been a little over his head based on the OPs description of the situation as such I understand their decision not to allow him to rent a tank. No one is required to facilitate other peoples stupidity. That said, I began diving in a pool in France at 8, with little...

    Snap Hooks

Yep, brass or marine stainless, used them for years with no worries. That said I tried buying the cheap stuff too....they jam and corrode fairly quickly in saltwater. Try using Dive Gear Express, their prices are not bad and the shipping is quick.

    Petrel

AS others have stated, the Petrel is probably the best computer on the market now and for the foreseeable future. It does not have all the bells and whistles of your "standard" recreational dive computers, such as air integration or audible alarms. It does however have regular updates, can be...

    5mm full or 3+3mm?

I use both configurations. That said, you say the second is easier for you to don...I would probably use that in this case, simply for ease of use, I don't like things to harder then they need to be. My wife dives a 3mm full with a 3m shorty over it in similar temperatures and is fine as well...

Typhoon slams Chuuk, on track to hit Yap harder

I figured it would be, I was there when the damage happened and saw the extent of it and I felt July was way too optimistic. The ship was full of water up to and into the lower cabins... Good to know she is in the yard and will be repaired.

    United baggage rules

I just few over 6800 miles on United (one way) with 140lbs of diver gear in two bags....my bags were two aviator kit bags and it cost nothing extra to fly with them. I simply told the ticket counter agent it was dive gear and that was it. No tanks though, they require you to empty them and...

Cutting tools of choice for wreck penetration dive?

Thanks, haven't really seen any yet, and I have done a bunch of East Coast wreck diving, but I'll keep it in mind and give it a go when I see some. Damn it, more gear to carry....

Cutting tools of choice for wreck penetration dive?

Are you talking about fishing wire cable or braided strand cable in large diameters? I'll have to give it a go next time I see some just for the sake of trying it.

Cutting tools of choice for wreck penetration dive?

I don't carry anything that is designed to cut wire....but the shears probably would...I can cut some pretty heavy materials with them.

Typhoon slams Chuuk, on track to hit Yap harder

Honestly don't care why the looting and behavior happened....it's irrelevant, it's debate for no reason. The fact is it DID happen and many of the people there showed their true colors. I, in the profession I am in deal with bad people all the time and am in situations that are "hazardous to by...

Typhoon slams Chuuk, on track to hit Yap harder

I'm talking about the behavior of the people, not the damage or destruction. As I said they acted worse than the people I met in Iraq and Afghanistan and I'm referring to the 2002-2004 time frame when cities were destroyed and the people had limited resources.

Cutting tools of choice for wreck penetration dive?

I would say I use my knife/line cutter more, haven't really needed the shears yet.

Typhoon slams Chuuk, on track to hit Yap harder

I would love to dive Truk again....but after all this I don't know, I generally don't believe taking my family to places that remind me of Iraq and Afghanistan (worse than) is a good idea. I understand posturing, and this was that and more. I was warned by Kim and JJ about the locals prior to...
