Ask your local dive shop if it has weekend outings, do a few, then take the Advanced Open Water course. Practice is important to build competence and confidence. Kickapoo State Rec Area in Danville allows diving, maybe connect with one of your classmates and work together. Have fun!

He's old, and it has been awhile since he last dove (a few years) although he used to dive quite a bit. Need to knock off the rust and not be in a place with a lot of current or repeated deep diving, and perhaps a few dives to get back into it. Thanks for your reply.
