    Venice Beach Conditions

Meg. is abbreviated megaladon, a specie. So "meg"s could be almost any size depending on the specimen that wore them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megalodon The megalodon, Carcharodon megalodon, (from ancient Greek μέγας = "big" + 'οδού&#962...

    Restructuring Florida, The Vote...

So now we're the clickers vs. the scrollers? BRIAN: Are you the Judean People's Front? REG: &%#! off! BRIAN: What? REG: Judean People's Front. We're the People's Front of Judea! Judean People's Front. Cawk. FRANCIS: Wankers. BRIAN: Can I... join your group? REG: No. Pi$$ off. BRIAN: I didn't...

    Restructuring Florida, The Vote...

No, only one subforum for clubs is being proposed at the root. All clubs created are grouped together there. What do I care if others want to gaggle or clutch? The proposal is for a single conch forum, three subforums (and none of them inherently subregional.) "Yea" is a vote for a single...

    Restructuring Florida, The Vote...

I don't think it saves a click...but it does cost real estate. Putting the clubs under one subforum does not mean extra clicks, because the clubs are listed after the subforum title, no? They're just a lot smaller...

    Restructuring Florida, The Vote...

I think no split is proposed. Instead, the splitters are all in one subforum. You are not voting on the splitter's names. A Yea vote means one conch forum, and one subforum for trips and local marketplace, and one calendar, and one subforum of X groups. Edit to add: I may be wrong, but I...

    Restructuring Florida, Take Two...

The IQ of a committee is the lowest IQ of a member of the committee, divided by the numbers of members on the committee. That gets halved for actual democracies. This question is being squirted about because for each person it becomes a discussion of personal indentity. The last diving club...

    Restructuring Florida, Take Two...

I'd say lose the Subforum A, B, C leaf altogether. Trips and Calendar should be statewide, IMHO. And put three or four regional labels on X number of regional or site-specific unrestricted "clubs." Add other clubs as TOS allows. Florida Conch Divers --Trips and Local Marketplace... Florida...

    Restructuring Florida...

If we must be North and South, so be it. I'm even warming to the thought of clubbing Tampa. But please consider moving the Venice threads out of there and into South Florida. The way I see it, Venice is a place you go diving. Tampa, OTOH, is a place you come from to go diving. So I...

    Restructuring Florida...

I don't understand why something so unimportant irritates me so much. All due respect, I think Tampa's a dump. :( Now I wake up, and find out I'm in the dump too? :no This may not be a total blunder, but it's in the Greater Blunder area. I'll just assume for now the "transition" is...

    Diver Attacked At Venice Beach!

More than one poor little peckerfish has had to look forward to passing an earring post after sucking the delicious looking thing from a diver's ear. Others discover the bilious crunchiness of moles or warts. Recommend to hide the tender bits.

Venice Beach Conditions - March 2007

Not foolin'... Man, it's been a long terrist season. I hit the beach yesterday like a penguin on Prozac. I stood near an hour in the shallow surf trying to gear up. Lost one new jet fin, and my DSS linecutter. Then I drifted downwind and current while bouncing along the bottom in booties, on...

    Shark Tooth Dive Tips

ReefGuy's guide is spot on. I'll add, on your specific questions, how I approach the beach dive. The sea is a big washing machine. On sandy/clay plains in shallow water the weather does a good job of uncovering things. Although you will probably find some things by digging and blasting...

Venice Beach Conditions - November 2006

Odiferous. It came on Halloween and was worse yesterday than today. Yesterday you could tell the beach was loaded with carcass, without even walking out there. Today, the water settled and the wind turned. Hope tomorrow is even better. Let us know what you find.

    Venice Beach Conditions

I wouldn't interpret this as too bad. In fact, I think there's evidence that for the last 8 weeks or so we've had varying degrees of red tide blooms floating around just offshore. Dependent upon wind and current, we get alternate days of clear and not-so-clear. It can blow up in less than a day...
