Review: TDI Normoxic Trimix with John Chatterton, November 2019

The did not follow the ceiling, they followed their stop depth. However, because the ceiling at the end of a stop is higher than the stop depth/below the next ceiling, OP says it was encouraged to cut your stop time short and ascend to the next ceiling by the end of the stop time. Basically...

Storing steel tanks in sub zero garage

It can cause condensation and rust provided the air is at the maximum suggested allowable moisture volume of 67ppm (-50f/-45c). That being said, that's REAL close to making your compressor filters useless, so most "air" tends to be lower than that. It's bad for business when you get hydrocarbon...

Before I take the plunge on a dry suit, some questions.

Seaskin is great. They're inexpensive and made-to-measure, but if you lose another 15 pounds you may experience a bit of an oversized suit. Remember, they are made to wear undergarments, so it will be bigger than you think. At that weight though, it shouldn't be too bad. It's certainly still...

New to ScubaBoard - not sure to how to post a new thread

It seriously cuts down on the number of ridiculous spam posts. CCRX pretty much died when a spammer flooded the entire forum and everybody just left.

    Uninventing the plastic zipper

My big problem with extended run times isn't necessarily the comfort factor, but the increased DCI risk during the decompression phase of a dive. The end of the day is when I want to be WARM, not for comfort, but for safety.

    Uninventing the plastic zipper

If I"m not in board shorts and a rash guard, I'm in a drysuit. It's not because I couldn't deal with a 3mm or 5mm or 7mm or whatever, I just dislike wetsuits for a number of reasons. I can do 70f/21c in board shorts and a rash guard if I'm doing a single recreational dive, a 8 hour rebreather...

    New DPV - Dive Xtras

There are some things that make it less than ideally suited for something like a cave scooter or backup scooter, but for open water diving it's probably the best option on the market right now. If it fit my needs, I'd get it over the Suex.

Hopping my way to full cave...

Ah, the old "wrong way arrows" trick. I'd write the briefing down in my wetnotes and would update while swimming if we changed the plan for whatever reason (another team that had taken our jump, etc.). I whipped my notes out so fast, added an "addendum" for effect, and showed the instructor the...

    Michigan Shipwrecks

A friend that lives in the mitten sent me this. Cool GIS data on shipwrecks in Lake Michigan. The web app is pretty cool. Michigan Shipwrecks ArcGIS Web Application

    Uninventing the plastic zipper

The "bending brass zipper" thing isn't even a thing. Literally not a thing. As for zipping a backzip solo, yes, I used to do it with my Fusion all the time. Plenty of people do it solo, although most use some sort of hook widget type of thing. I don't necessarily know that I'm any more flexible...

Good write up. Sounds like an "interesting" class.

Hopping my way to full cave...

Congrats! My first lost line drill I failed pretty spectacularly. I would have found it eventually but called the drill early due to some miscommunication between myself and the instructor. It's hugely uplifting when you nail the drill and find the line.

    My AN/DP/Helitrox course

I dislike 1-on-1 because you're not going to get the same level of instructor oversight if the instructor has to "play" a part in the course as well. If the instructor is distracted playing the buddy, they're not playing instructor the way they should be. You're either diving with an...

    Uninventing the plastic zipper

Brass for me. The plastic horror stories over the years have made me hesitant to get one on a personally owned suit.

Which spool to attach transmitter to HP hose?

The DGX recommended spool is fine.

Braided low pressure and high pressure regulator hoses

Rubber all the way. Braided is annoying for several reasons.

    BOV: Shrimp vs Divesoft?

I chose the Shrimp because it's what I'm familiar with. I prefer the bayonet connectors on the Shrimp, but performance wise I would imagine they're pretty similar. Both are quality manufacture, although any Shrimp support I'd recommend going through SG and not Jakub.

    First rebreather choice

Hey @Preach if you check here: Buy & Sell Rebreathers worldwide There are two Inspo's up for sale near the top. Evo+ is from a dude named Alain Thomas in France, Classic is from a Niels Astrup Millard in Denmark. 3500 and 2350 Euros respectively +ship. I know nothing about them, don't know the...

    My AN/DP/Helitrox course

The issue with Al80's isn't when you're carrying one, it's when you're carrying multiple and the physical size/gas required ratio means you're carrying extra mass and physical volume for no gain. Stack 3 Al80's on your side and you can see how having two of them be Al40's would be beneficial...

    Understanding DS Undergarments

Another option that I've used before is to dress for the surface, and use a heated vest. You want to be "cold" on the bottom, and warm during deco, so what I'll do is dress so I won't overheat on the surface and in the shallows, and kick on the heated vest on low for the bottom portion, and...
