    Roatan Options with Family

there’s a Facebook Roatan Travel / Support Roatan group that has pretty comprehensive info and resources. They keep a fairly updated list of testing locations / cost / turnaround time for both PCR and Antigen. They also have a user guide for filling out the pre-check forms online. Looks like...

    Roatan Options with Family

So, we decided to stay in the West Bay area given our first trip and wanting to have options vs. staying just at one resort on the east side. Would folks recommend we do one day of diving away from West Bay to get a different view of the reef or will we be pretty happy out of West Bay for 10...

I did hear about the infamous sand fleas. So, bug spray doesn't help at all?

    Roatan Options with Family

Hi all, Kids are certified, and we're scoping out some options for spring break. Roatan is on the list as a place that looks like it has great diving and good value. We've never been there before. I read though @drrich2 very thorough research on the following link What looks like the usual...

Amazing Dive Experience with Explore Kauai Scuba

We recently returned from a family trip in Kauai. Our kids spent 3 days early in the trip getting their scuba certifications and we wanted to dive together as a family and went with Explore Kauai Scuba (@KauaiScuba). We booked an afternoon private charter, because we weren't sure how the kids...

Kauai Jr. Open Water School Recommendations?

Just a follow-up and thanks to all for feedback. We ended up getting the kids certified during the Christmas stretch with Scott / Makana O Kauai and we (most importantly they) had a great experience and now have their open water cards. Here's a review of the experience

Great kids certification experience with of Makana O Kauai

Hi all, On a recommendation from Nick @KauaiScuba, we ended up booking our kids (13 year olds) for their open water certification with Makana O Kauai scuba / Scott. (Here's the original thread searching for input) Summary: Highly recommend Scott if you want your kids (or yourself) to get...

If working, do you ever need to replace dive computer (Aeris Atmos 1)

lol... definitely true. I never really need anything... which was why my original post did ask if there was a reason that I "needed" to think about replacing our computer vs. "want". Sorry about the diversionary reply mentioning using my kids' scuba cert as an excuse to buy new computers...

If working, do you ever need to replace dive computer (Aeris Atmos 1)

So, while described as "liberal", guessing that DSAT still maintains a safe profile for a general recreational diver? And regarding new computer being "compatible" assuming that means that if I bought new computers with a more conservative algorithm, there could be a situation where the more...

If working, do you ever need to replace dive computer (Aeris Atmos 1)

Hi all, I have an Aeris Atmos 1 wrist-mount puck. The thing's probably at least 15 years old by now. It still works, I have extra o-rings for it and it has never given me any problems. We just do regular recreational diving, no nitrox. Is there any reason why I'd need (not want ) to...

Thanks again Nick. Got in touch with Scott today and arranged for sessions with my kids. Will probably reach out to you about some dives once we figure out the rest of the family schedule.

Kauai Jr. Open Water School Recommendations?

Mahalo Nick! When a local owner/operator recommends someone else because of a specific situation (working with kids)... that's got to be a strong endorsement - and sign of being all around good people. I appreciate that you read the ask and made a referral that matched the criteria.

Kauai Jr. Open Water School Recommendations?

Hi, we're looking at getting our kids (13) open water certified and will be in Kauai later this year. Does anyone have recommendations on a good dive school on the island? We're staying near closer to Lihue, but don't mind driving We don't mind taking more time out of the vacation (cert over...

Which Dive OP for Kona Manta Dive?

There's no boat traffic at the Mauna Kea location where the light is. It's literally right next to the shore. The boats that do come to that location (and most don't, they go to the airport) stay farther out in that bay. If you look on google maps, it's the 1/4 of the way out the point where...

Which Dive OP for Kona Manta Dive?

We've done the Manta dive on Kona with Big Island Divers. I'd recommend Pacific Rim Divers, but I don't think they always do a Manta dive. When you do the Manta dives, typically, you just swim to the bottom, and wait for the Mantas to come in. Honestly, as an alternative option, you can...

woohoo! Kona -and- Kauai this fall

Tep, We just returned from the Big Island, but didn't dive this time because of our kids in tow. We've used Pacific Rim Divers (Patrice) a couple of times in the past, and really enjoyed the service. For the Mantas, I'm not sure how far in advance they book, but there's a really easy snorkel...

+1 Gabe has a great and friendly operation.

    Wife won free condo!

If you're doing Big Island we really liked Pacific Rim Divers, but it's been a while. Patrice and her crew were great and it's a smaller boat/operation so you don't have to deal with a big crowd. We also liked Big Island divers who we did a night dive with.

Beginner divers in O'ahu, Hawaii in late July

April, just a plug that we had a great time with Kaimana divers when we were out 2 years ago, even if Gabe won't plug himself. Great outfit and will tailor to your level. No dive attitude at all. There are some great wrecks to dive in Oahu, but not sure if any are shallow enough if you're a...

Maui Diving and snorkeling staying in Wailea - recommendations?

Hi all, Making it back to Maui after 10 years now with kids in tow. Location: We're staying in Wailea. Couple of days at the Grand Wailea and then at condos (Ekahi Village?) A couple of different questions: DIVING - any dive operators out of Kihea that don't dive Molokini? We did it last...
