No one asked you what kind of diving you are doing? Open ocean? Wreck diving? Cave diving? Cold water? Warm water? Drysuit? Wetsuit? What region are you diving? Because outside of Florida your going to get ****** fills.
Anyways, I'm a cold and warm water wreck diver FWIW and I've owned just...
Double hp 120’s and triple AL80’s with shorts and t shirt . Redundant wing and a couple lift bags on hand. No big deal. Never had problems with lift but had problems with ditchable weight ditching itself
I focus on the O2 number and make sure I have enough HE. Small batch trimix is hard to hit but running into a bank allows for tweaking on the fly. When I worked at a dive shop, I'd hit my numbers running into a bank then start filling up 6-10 sets of doubles.
Rainbow Reef in KL puts a guide in the water but ounce you get your bearings go to Horizon Divers and enjoy. Up north near FLL Pompano Dive Center, South Florida Diving Headquarters.... There are many more good options in both areas I just haven't dove with them yet. Head a bit more south of KL...
Sometimes you can't get enough people to roll a boat when it's rough. If the wind is blowing perpendicular to the current it get's crappy on the mooring line. Besides the water goes milky.
Pompano is 1.5 hours away but often the weather is different so it can be a go. Call PDC
I've had decent weather over the winter, but sometimes the weather is nice but the boats don't roll because their isn't enough people. Rainbow generally has at least one boat go out to the shallows even on dead days
I learned awesome full contact wreck diving from JC, early this year I dove with him on the AD, pretty epic for me. Wreck diving can look ugly to some but it is what it is.
Watch style? I noticed your here in Cali, it's magnitudes easier to read large color display in crappy water. Monocrome dive watches can be hard to see and hard to press small buttons with cold water gloves on.
Used Petrel would be my first choice, but there are other choices I'm not versed in.
Diving there was a unique experience. I don't think I would go back unless the draconian rules they have change and no opportunities to tech dive. Maybe this is an opportunity to change for the better?
I've worked several fill stations, I use handhelds to verify tank mix, but when mixing I use a flow re-stricter and a more robust HE/O2 analyser.
A few handhelds I've seen have a port for a hose, I've been wanting to try to keep the gas flows consistent.
Continuous blending solves many...
Yes it's a serious driver to get into a 'breather. It only cost me like $20 bucks for a fill on my rebreather vs $150 for set of doubles. With longer bottom times I get even more minutes underwater per dollar. My helium bill last year was about equal to the cost of my JJ.
Islamorada Dive Center, those boy are all about diving and fishing. Conch Republic is an excellent choice as well. Conch has two boats, with 6 people you could probably get a boat all to yourselves. There are more in the area but these are the only 2 I've used. With a group of 6 I would reserve...
