Coming back to the OP, breathing O2 at 10ft or 20ft does not have an effect the rate of off gassing of inert gases, but Deco for divers says pretty clearly that breathing high ppO2 helps in reducing bubble formation:
Table 26: "Increased from in partial pressure between arterial and venous...
Just finished the section on reverse profile diving in "Deco for Divers" and was surprised to learn that there is no scientific basis for discouraging reverse profile dives, and that they are already being done in commercial, scientific and military diving. Yet this is against everything I've...
I agree that understanding your limitations is THE most important rule in determining your progress in diving.
I started diving twins around dive 70 after OW and now I've been diving TMX, 2 deco, just shy of dive 200. That might sound fast, but I grew up in So Cal, and surfed, played water...
I agree with GrimSleeper above -- ditching weight and bolting uncontrollably to the surface is an awful contingency plan. If there is a catastrophic and unrecoverable failure in your air supply, you should go to your buddy.
That aside, it is much more important to have a balanced rig as being...
hey all,
just to update you on my Black BT: on my last series of dives, I didn't get a recurrence of the bug that locked my computer into dive mode even when I surfaced. But I did notice a difference in depth of up to 0.8m between the Suunto and Black at around 45 m. The difference is less at...
Lec, does your computer and software generated profiles match up? I could get deco planner and my Suunto HELO2 to get similar profiles only on Suunto personal preference P -2.
I've been doing this on my latest dives and think its a pretty good idea. I dive the table above all else; if the...
Hey everyone, just like to check your opinion on BCD bladder failures. I've heard that if they fail, they will fail at the weak points: base of the inflator hose or the dump valve.
I've heard stories that they can 'blowout' causing catastrophic failure and immediate loss of buoyancy...
bad news ! As you know, we here in HK already have the black and there are reports of it blocking up. Attached is a screenshot from the HK tec divers site.
It appears the computer is very conservative and locks up easily. This one guy was just using it for recreational diving and it locked up...
I think this is what I've been trying to say. I'm in favour of making a choice to extend the stay to take the time needed for any contingencies, or if you want to do gas switches with your buddy sequentially. As long as its in a controlled and deliberate manner, I think it is fine.
But I've...
My view is that the US customers and shops like DRIS are being screwed by TDG.
I gave a big order of $1200 to TDG last Sept, incl. the Black which was not advertised as out of stock on the website at that time. I got a partial shipment, and then the 2-week availability and customs excuses for...
You may want to look at the minimalist Xdeep Ghost. The wing and back plate weight only 5 lbs. The wing itself is designed differently: it has a 'flatter' profile when inflated and 'hugs' the single tank for better trim. You can get accessories like an STA, trim weight and weight pockets.
Ok this makes sense on the final stop; the other divers have already completed their deco obligation and can give their remaining gas to the diver who lost the tanks.
How about at an early stop at 21 m where a diver loses a 50% tank? Normally the diver could switch to a backup table for a lost...
Hadn't had the time yet, DRIS, but I have hopes that this is a software rather than hardware issue. The depth was correctly reading 0m the whole time I was at the surface, so the mechanics look sound. Its just that for some reason, on this dive, at 0m it didn't enter into surface mode and end...
Hey everyone, if your buddy has an OOG emergency during deco, do you donate your deco reg and switch to your necklace?
Or do you donate your long hose?
The +5 or +10 min slates are for overstaying bottom time. I think that's fine in addition to slates if you go too deep.
My question is about deco stops, and what the contingency plan is if there is any delay in gas switch with someone in your group. I think the group should overstay that stop...
I see that this thread has really grown! Great!
Just to clarify a few points:
- I don't favour ditching run time to follow a computer. I don't use a computer at all, just a bottom timer. I do all my dive planning on SW.
- I'm also not in favour of ditching dive planning: if you plan 60m for...
Took my new BT on some tec dives and the display is great, even at depth. I don't even look at my old Suunto anymore and use it as just a backup.
But on one of my dives to 60m, the dive timer didn't stop when I surfaced and kept on counting! It stayed in dive mode even though the depth read 0...
