Good source for KHK certified pony cylinders in Japan?

The only big importer of ALU tanks is Aqualung Japan.... and they mainly do AL80s and AL40s.... never heard about smaller ones. There are no companies in Japan that makes them so need to impart 40-80 of them and then get them certified. Would love to know this as well !

Diving Ishigaki and Yonaguni in the next 2 weeks: recommendations?

Indeed, just some 'intense' weather and winds. We had a group going second week of February and their plane was unable to land due to crazy winds. Limited their diving on the first day too. Even in Tokyo we have been experiencing some extreme winds despite not being typhoon season.

Question HAMMER HEADS IN JAPAN FEB 2025 - looking for advice

Only shark scramble is really interesting in Chiba. Most places will not speak English but the owner at BOMMIE does do somewhat. https://bommie.jp/en/

Question Moving to Tokyo - need advice

So sidemount is my bread and butter and I am an instructor based in Tokyo. Let me reply. "Sidemount tanks" as in the proper (DIN) ones, there is only one divecenter that has them and that will be Shishihama diving center (only techie diving center in Izu). And that is it unfortunately. Most...

Diving near Tokyo in mid/late January?

You already seem to have already done the highlights! Your research is not bad as Kumomi would be next on my list and it is one of my favorites/hidden gems. These are just caverns, not caves. Any recreational diver can go there and I take our club members there all the time! The seafood dinners...

    Okinawa typhoon?

I looked at the Windy app/website and looks from Tuesday to Friday there will be little to no diving during that time. Very strong winds and high waves. Safety first.

Has anyone dived the Japanese Battleship Mutsu?

After 12 years in Japan, the Mutsu is still on my bucket list. Too bad only half of it is left. The Emmons is my favorite wreck dive in Japan. Not much else to see. The Asahi Maru is my local wreck and there are some penetration options there. No other wrecks around Tokyo much bigger than a...

    Question Beginner diving in Japan

For Mikomoto, I recommend at least 50 dives under the belt and it is pretty strong drift diving. Reach out to DiveZone Tokyo, depending on dates, we can see if we can work out something like Shark Scramble.

Where and what time of the year is generally considered the best diving in Japan?

For Hammers, my bet is also Yonaguni in February. Still doable in wetsuit. I have done several weekends in Mikomoto and missed out. Never went wrong with a 3-day or 4-day weekend in Yonaguni. Plus can do Kerama and other spots on way to Yonaguni.

    Question Diving near Tokyo

Have not logged into the board for a while. The Mikomoto Hammers will be the shop that 'should' have an English speaker during the high season. Take bullet train to Atami and transfer to the local train taking you to Izu-shimoda station. I find Mikomoto hit and miss and hope you will have lots...

    Okinawa/Yonaguni in December

Typhoon season is June. My first trip ever to Okinawa was in December and I had a blast. Still warm enough for a T-shirt on land (barely) and I dived a 5mm but I remember being a bit cold (21-23C). Like always it depends on wind strength and wind direction on where we could actually dive. If...

Finally returning to Okinawa, need dive shop recommendation

I recommend Piranha Divers but they are based in Onna. In Chatan, Reef Encounters is your best option.

    Best diving location in Japan

Yonaguni doesn't have that much reefs and life and is famous for their monument. I like Ishigaki a lot ! Also famous for their mantas!!

Fun dives at Izu Peninsula - english speaking

Unfortunately, both DDT and DZT groups only dive in the weekends. I had an English contact at IOP but he also moved to Okinawa resulting in a lack of English support. Go to the DZT website and send me a message and might be able to refer you to somebody else.
