Moray Eels - Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Thanks! Yes... I believe that is a Tiger Snake eel... I just grouped it with the others for convenience! They are gorgeous specimens! They are pretty common in PV area, Must have seen a dozen different eels of this particular type.

Yes... I always prefer a strobe, unless there is a reason not to use it... really brings out the color!

Porcupine fish - shot with DC1400 and ext flash

Thanks! The best I can suggest is to take the flash off of auto.. put the camera in manual ext flash mode... and set the power on the flash manually (start around 20% and go back and forth from there) shoot your hand a bit underwater at the approximate distances your subjects will be at... to...

Diving Puerto Vallarta - PV Sea Dive is the outfit to go with!

Just got back from a trip to Puerto Vallarta, and did six days of diving with PV Sea Dive. I hae wanted to go to Puerto Vallarta for a bunch of diving for a while, primarily to take photos of the large number of Nudibranch's that thrive in the bay waters. I had read multiple excellent...

Have people tried to get the "Advanced" in AOW changed to something else?

I have both my Padi Advanced, and my OLD Naui Open Water II cert. Of the two... the NAUI course was more strenuous and comprehensive. Could just chalk that up to different instructors, although the Naui course description at that time (1986) did cover a lot more than the Padi did (took them both...

    barnacle embedded in skin

I would suggest an ER visit.. at least see your doctor as soon as possible. I would not wait until Monday if it continues to show signs of infection. Sounds like you will need some antibiotics! Hopefully your tetanus shots are up to date also? I would also learn know to avoid bumping into...

    Who uses dive gear bag?

Stahlsac makes some very sturdy gear. It is not the cheapest, but it is well designed and will last. I have one Stahlsac bag I bought in about 1994, and it is still going strong. I currently use a Curacao Clipper bag for a checked baggage bag. Lets me carry two sets of full size fins, two masks...

New to underwater photography. What kind of camera to get?

Depends on a lot of things. List your budget... hard to make suggestions without that. List your expectations also. Are you wanting shallow water / ambient light shots? On Camera flash? External flash? What depths will you be shooting at? Resolution / megapixels wanted? Do you want mostly just...

    First Time using the DC1400

Thanks! I was actually between 30 and 40 feet for all of my shots. I do have the external flash, and used it as fill for some shots, main light in others. I was also using the Dive mode for color correction when I wasn't using flash. When I shoot above water (D800) I almost always use a manual...

Thanks! We stayed at Na Balam hotel (Very quiet and laid back) on Isla Mujeres, and dove with Carey Dive Center. Very good people, and willing to work with you.
