Question Best way to clean a DIN 1 stage without getting water inside

If you find a discarded sinter filter at the local dive shop you can try a small experiment. Fill it with water and it will hold it like a cup of tea without dripping any down through the other side. That sinter filter installed at the entry point or inlet in a 1st stage (whether Yoke or Din)...

Attaching a torch/flashlight to your BCD so you can use it but not drop it.

The solution to your anxiety is to first switch on the torch as posted above, unhook the Boltsnap from the D-Ring and hook it into the wrist band, and only then start pointing it wherever … and don’t try it when you are distracted. I think you are worrying a tad too much…

Attaching a torch/flashlight to your BCD so you can use it but not drop it.

It’s a soft yet sturdy elastic rubber and folds into the Boltsnap with a hooking movement. It was part of a gel filters kit I had lying around but I think it’s easy to find cheap alternative flat rubber bands that are very thick and sturdy but not very elastic (or the hairband above). (I...

Attaching a torch/flashlight to your BCD so you can use it but not drop it.

^^Same as above except that instead of attaching to a bungee of the DC I always wear a loose fitting flat rubber band around my left wrist and the Boltsnap clips into it. The band is actually something I got from Lee filters to attach color gel strips onto a camera flash.

    Scubapro Go-Sport vs Go-Sport Gorilla

Quick Question - any downsides to hanging the fins using the heel strap the entire year or will they cause a gradual weakening of sorts? I don’t have wall hooks right now that can use the holes at the tip of the fins…

Myth or Fact? Sharks are attracted to WHITE dive gear

Fab video! It’s on my bucket list to be around them with my new fluorescent orange gorilla fins in the red sea someday… :) Going through that thread now over the next few days. Curious - do they accept scanned copies of cert cards everywhere these days? I remember in the early days of the...

Myth or Fact? Sharks are attracted to WHITE dive gear

This video seems to suggest that oceanic white tips are attracted to the bright orange colors of the DSMB or the fluorescent Orange fins more than other sharks. Two sharks circle in to take down two DSMBs during the groups safety stop on this dive… watch the first minute for the intro then skip...

    Question Skipping 1st stage Maintenance?

I am just getting familiar with tools and precision (imperial vs metric for example) and I had a few questions about the things I never paid attention to in my life before :- Some of the sockets I see online are 12 point (for ex:22mm 3/8” drive to fit the cap of the MK25) while most of the...

Trip Video - Maldives Deep South March 2024

Your words do injustice to the video. You saw aggregations of Grey Sharks in so many places! Can you list the dive sites where you saw them? Also I didn’t know that they use a bait box in the Maldives - Which site was that? The Bull Shark at Koodoo was a great sighting too! The video tells me...

Question Only Instructor wears dive computer (extra charge if I want one)

In a dystopian world he would have FrogMen-In-Black wetsuits and hoodies and dark tinted scuba masks knocking on his front door with spearguns in hand … “We heard you had some questions for us … <ahem> do you need any further clarifications? We are here to get this sorted out in case you’ve had...

Question Suunto Transmitter on Scubapro MK17: Which Flow Restrictor?

There are numerous reports and threads here on SB here about exploding Shearwater transmitters. IIRC the recall was for Shearwater. It appears that this problem has affected transmitters across brands…

Question Scubapro DIN Conversion - to DIY or not to DIY?

Admittedly I am new to all this - but a 6mm hex long shaft with 3/8” drive in the socket is also what we can use to torque Scubapro regs. It’s easy to take apart something with hacks like these but if you need to rebuild with the right torque specs then the right tools are necessary for the...

Question Scubapro DIN Conversion - to DIY or not to DIY?

I am confused - you mean to say the 26mm is the wrong nut to use correct? Here he is saying even the 25mm is not the right fit. Or is it the case that when you order a 25mm socket from scuba-clinic you actually get 25.4mm?

Question Suunto Transmitter on Scubapro MK17: Which Flow Restrictor?

Doesn’t matter - looking at the extension plug in the pic it’s still the equivalent of a direct connection to the reg female thread. Alternatively skip the extension plug and use a 6” HP hose and the type B flow restrictor … you will still get the clearance.

Question Scubapro DIN Conversion - to DIY or not to DIY?

Just found this clever hack for removing A-Clamps with just a spanner and without the thin-walled sockets. If anyone wants to try - Edit - Just realised : However there’s a catch! When rebuilding the reg you need a torque wrench with specific toque settings and this hack won’t let you do that.
