What's the chance of being charged a camera tax at Los Cabos Airport

We just got back. No issues at all for us. I was prepared, following the Nautilus guidelines. Had documents of current values, etc. When we were clearing customers we were asked; "Purpose of visit?" "Diving" "Camera? Housing?" "Yes." "Enjoy your trip." That was it. I'm sure it can happen...

What's the craziest thing you ever found?

Blackie Collins dive knife. Diving Ship Rock, Catalina Island, California. Only found it because I was grabbing a lure, hooked to a lure that was snagged on the handle (that looked like a shell). Three for 1! Handle and sheath completely encrusted. Soaked the knife in vinegar for a few days to...

Forgotten Islands / Spice Islands Trip - worth it?

I asked this in the Indo forum but you guys have the experience I have been wanting to hear from. We are planning our first Raja liveaboard. We will start with a few land based days in Lembeh and then either Sorong to Sorong or Ambon to Sorong liveaboard. Ambon to Sorong only gives a few days...

Sold! Apeks RK3 Fins - Large - White - New

Hello, In San Antonio and interested. Not sure about size. I wear a size 11 bootie due to wide feet. Thoughts?

    Itinerary feedback

Thanks for the quick reply. From my understanding, on this itinerary (White Manta), we only do a checkout dive in Ambon then off to Banda. So not much time in the muck while in Ambon. From what I've read (but have no personal experience) Lembeh sounds nicer topside than Ambon. With my wife...

    Itinerary feedback

Howdy! We are planning our first Indo trip. From research on these pages I have killed the idea of Lembeh to Raja. Everything I've read says to focus on Raja (Sorong to Sorong) as the transfer trips miss central/Southern areas. That said I am intrigued by the options that start in Ambon, hit...

    Revillagigedo Overload

We've been back near a week now. An amazing experience on the Nautilus Belle Amie. Fantastic weather on a great boat catered by a crew that I can only refer to as a well oiled machine. Far exceeded my expectations and left us overwhelmed. We are still process the trip as a whole. Our first...

Question Socorro in march wetsuit choice

Just a follow up. Got home yesterday. Used a Henderson Aqualock 5mm for the majority fo the week. Add a Sharskin Ti2 hood for the last half. Never got chilled. Very comfy the entire time. Water temps 72-76F.

    Roatan reef bleaching/ health?

Here a representation of what you will likely see:

Roatan? Stick a fork in it.

The current airport is actually pretty nice. The older version had no a/c. Basically bag check was a roof over a couple tables and fans. The more comfortable and easier things get, the larger the draw. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find things uncomfortable enough to keep the...

Trip Report Socorro Trip on the MV Valentina

Moment of panic! I saw your note about marine park fee and was not prepared for an additional $700.00! I did some follow up and it appears that different ops handle things in different ways. We will be diving with nautilus and the fees are factored into the cost of the trip. So I guess we...

Question Socorro in march wetsuit choice

We are going last week of March/first week of April. From what I've researched the temps can be quite variable so we will dive 5mm fulls. Also picked up some Sharkskin hoods and zippered vests (theoretically 5mm additional). Hopefully that will handle whatever ranges we encounter. A bit late for...

    Current Status of Bonaire

Thanks for those with honest feedback. Is sounds like my questions have been answered and there has not been any change to the positive. Unfortunately, for now, we will have to leave this beautiful island and its fantastic freedom of diving off of our agenda. Off topic, but we will be diving...

    Current Status of Bonaire

Hello and Happy Holidays! I am looking for honest opinions from those with the history to reply. What is the current status of Bonaire? We visited Bonaire 3 times in the late 90's and 2000's. As with all dive venues we saw typical changes. One year eels everywhere. The next there were...

    Trip Report Yap trip

The "but": First; maybe I was spoiled. No, I WAS spoiled for two days. Private boat, private guides. But, after two days we were joined by a group of 6. Very nice group of Germans and Austrians. Good divers, good buoyancy and air consumption. No problem with them at all. That said, we were...

    Trip Report Yap trip

Diving: Great...but.... 4 days of diving. 4 dives on day 1 and 3 dives a day for the following 3 days. It started with a navigation through German Channel, bisecting the island, passing through the most dense, healthy mangrove forest(?) I've seen anywhere. Thoughts of men waging war here was...

    Trip Report Yap trip

Resort: I somewhat remember arriving. The staff is very understanding in regards to their clients diminished mental capacity and basically dump your bags and body in your room. Yap is 15 hours ahead of San Antonio so jet lag was a challenge but I set an alarm for 7am local and began the process...

    Trip Report Yap trip

Page 1 Sometimes things work in your favor. I was recently sent to Yap for work. Of course I schlepped along my dive and photo gear. Simply too far to go without at least one dive! As it turns out work ended quickly and I was able to get 4 dive days in. A total of 13 dives. The island, above...

Trip Report CoCo View Resort - August 2023

"for the diving you do at Cocoview a mix of deep/medium/shallow you don't get the benefits of Nitrox" When still diving air only at CCV we were constantly hitting NDL's long before our Nitrox buddies. Doing 4-6 dives a day the N2 buildup is going to catchup with you unless you're above 30fsw on...
