    ASME Bottle takes a ride

When we were kids, we thought this was a fun thing to do with the little home oxygen bottles - put 'em up on a ramp and sledge the valve off. No abandoned car was safe from us. Nowadays I recall all the junk we smashed them into and think my god, now I'm strapping myself to one!

    Bad dive buddy rant

PADI has endorsed solo diving through the "self reliant diver" certification. I am also a certified "solo diver" through another organization (although the card itself means little to me) Also, I agree with your first point, but the next two points aren't exactly accurate. There have been...

    Bad dive buddy rant

Yes and no. If the instructor is guiding, leading, teaching, etc... then I wholeheartedly agree with you. Buddy awareness and communication is essential to good diving when you have a buddy. If not, then it's fair game for one to do as they please (and suffer any consequences). Like Lecter...

Filling LP tanks to high pressure

Crystal clear. Thus, just like bending a coat hanger, it gets more difficult to "bend" at the stress point as the process of work hardening continues, up to the point of failure. (I think, anyway...brain is a little fried at the moment) Would it be prudent, then, to consider advancing a...

Filling LP tanks to high pressure

That would be the question I am presenting, yes. The elastic characteristics changing makes perfect sense, and is to be expected, but what's important is the phrase "more likely to fail". I guess what would be important to think about is whether expansion per cycle, modeled as a function of...

    Innovation in diving

I was taught to use air in a graduated cylinder to measure ambient pressure. No moving parts, no futzing with calibrations, and no batteries to die. So long as you keep it inverted, it's 100% accurate. Plus, they come in an assortment of capacities to fit every size of diving ego.

Filling LP tanks to high pressure

Thank you. This is exactly the information that I was looking for, but I do have a few follow up questions. Suppose a tank has been overfilled to the point of plastic expansion enough to produce a volume of, say, 50cc more than it's baseline capacity. The tank then goes in for hydro which...
