If not Phils or Indo, then?

I've not been to that temple or the butterfly park; but, I have been to the waterfall a few times. There are a couple of things to see up in the jungle near the waterfall too - carvings on the river bed that are 1000 years old; and there is a place to eat and have some ale. Whether you go and...

If not Phils or Indo, then?

Good choice on Siam Reap, Angkor Wat is fascinating - I have lots of friends living there, though I have not been there for a while. Kulen National Park is something I like to visit when I would go there. I'd rent a off road motorbike and drive up there through the jungle - there is a very...

    More conservative/"alternative" diving profiles?

Familiar with this article from DAN? "How effective are deep stops at preventing DCS, whether called for by a bubble algorithm or when used by divers independent of what their computers suggest? To help shed light on this issue, we asked several experts for their opinions." Deep Stops Alert...

If not Phils or Indo, then?

Why not Sharm El Sheik? Go and dive the Thisltegorm... Perhaps you have been there already? But, if not, then it would be but a short flight from UAE. As for the Philippines, Taal may be benign by then. I dove in Subic for there was some training I wanted to do there; nice wrecks, but the...

Sandra Stewart sues a whole lot more folks

I missed the thread about the documentary then. I see my sentiments about it are mirroring yours. Perhaps one day something convincing will come out about what happened.

Sandra Stewart sues a whole lot more folks

The complaint says "Defendant HORIZON DIVE supervised, planned, ordered, or controlled the subject dive in connection with its ownership, operation, management, maintenance, or control of the subject vessel. " It repeats most of this for almost all the defendants. Not sure Stewart himself...

Thanks for the tip - I certainly keep that in mind - I would not want to be limited by that.

Thanks fellows. I added Camel dive to my map - that name pops up a lot. I am looking forward to see the Thistlegorm though... I am sure the cold won't bother me - where I am right now it is -31 C; so, Sharm will be about 50 degrees C warmer than where I am now ;).

Anybody dived Korea since the 2015 laws came into effect?

What's the gossip about these new and onerous rules?

Anybody dived Korea since the 2015 laws came into effect?

I dove on Jeju with Ralph years ago, 2007 or so. I assume he is still running his shop... The website: BigBlue33 - Jeju Island diving service There are recent reviews posted about his shop so I guess it is still open. I am sure he will know what you need to know given how long he has been...

Just booked some tickets to Sharm... Never been there before but know it is famous. My wife will come but she is not going to dive. I read through lots of threads about it on the site here. Also looked at the PADI dive shop locator. There is certainly no shortage of companies. I am trying...

As tech diver, diving single tank no-deco rec. in trim, what is your waist/hip lead?

For a rec. dive with my BP/W I only have 2, 2lb weights attached at the back on the top cam band. I put them in this position for trim. I have not tried to ditch them or remove them underwater. My system is pretty balanced and I have had no trouble staying neutral throughout the entire dive...

    Tipping

Sure - but, these airlines don't call those extra items 'giving a tip', meaning, an optional addition one can pay for good service; they are (often) clear (in the fine print at least) that these items are not included in the base price; and, if one does not choose to buy these items then there...

    Tipping

There are many things I dislike about tipping: (1) It is expected. Some places even tack on a mandatory gratuity automatically. In this case, it defeats the purpose of the tip - extra given for good service; treated as obligatory it is simply a default cost to be added without some...

    Gili islands first, then Komodo?

I spent a month diving out of Labuan Bajo; had a nice time there and loved the diving but the currents in the water there were an experience for sure; I had not encountered currents like that before or since. That said, current could be a problem for a new diver; but it would also be a good...

Challenges in your first 100 dives?

Diving in Canada when I was young and lean. Cold May water in Tobermory. Feet were numb when surfacing. Had to crawl ashore - feet too cold to walk. Had to sit in the sun until they warmed up enough to walk.

    Anybody else encounter tech arrogance?

My first experience with tech-diving made me realize I know crap all. Indeed, on one day of training, the scenario we were running stressed me out a lot - I did not know up from down I think - we were practicing solo ascents, having a surface marker deployed with a free flowing regulator and a...
