    Heading to NS and R4

Hi there! Here I'm, set to travel to Manado tomorrow. I'll stay three days at TwoFish Bunaken and three days at Two Fish Lembeh during the first week, before an 11-day liveaboard with the Tidak Apa'Pa at Raja Ampat. Back in Manado, I'll close the holiday at Bangka Island with Nomad Divers...

Mares Icon HD - deco stop on 3m

Hi Ken, I think he got many well-intentioned answers, however. What would be your answer to his questions, actually?

Mares Icon HD - deco stop on 3m

In the original post you asked this question: "Why deco-stop must be completed on the depth higher than depth for safety-stop ???" You got an answer to the question in my second post, namely, you can carry out a safety stop at 3 metres (if you wish to carry out one, because it's not mandatory)...

Mares Icon HD - deco stop on 3m

Ihtiander, For the sake of clarity, could you explain whether you exceeded the non-decompression limit for the dive in question, please? If you did, had you planned the deco dive or you exceeded the non-decompression limit by accident? Just trying to understand the picture.

Mares Icon HD - deco stop on 3m

That's right: it's difficult to keep neutrally buoyant at 3 metres with little gas left in the tank (or tanks). You may wish to do a buoyancy check with a nearly empty tank next time, to avoid the inconvenience in future dives. By way of aside, I find it somewhat odd that you do deco dives...

Mares Icon HD - deco stop on 3m

Perhaps you haven't read it carefully. At page 17 it says the safety stop is "carried out between depths of 6m / 20ft and 3m / 10ft at the end of a dive prior to surfacing". You can thus stay at 3 metres to perform the safety stop. Or not?

    Compass Mares Icon Net Ready

Hi Kharon, Thanks for the tip. I just did the recalibration. Although it has improved the performance (now I can see the reciprocal heading symbol, at least), it is still inaccurate for about 20 degrees, which is quite a lot. Tomorrow I will give it another try (in the open air), see what...

    Compass Mares Icon Net Ready

Hi there, If you are an Icon user, I would like to know whether you use the compass and what your experience has been so far. I am trying to use mine, but after setting a bearing, I cannot align the arrow with the square or triangle symbols, even if I had turn 90 or 120 degrees respectively...

    Liability of going pro?

lord1234, The answer to your overall question depends on the laws in force in the territory where the facts took place. It may attract a given answer in Florida, another in Bonaire, and another in Raja Ampat. More than that, even within one and the same 'territorial jurisdiction', the answer...

Recent underwater discoveries in Argentinean Patagonia

A team of divers of the Argentinean institute of archeology has discovered eights wrecks of archaeological importance in San Jorge Gulf, Argentina. One of the wrecks is that of Potosí, a five-masted steel sailing ship built in Germany in 1895, which at the time used to be the longest sailing...

    Dive permit Saudi Arabia

I went diving to Jeddah two years ago and permits were not required. Perhaps I was merely asked to show my certification; I don't remember. Check out the website of Desert Sea Divers; they organise boat dives twice per week.

Reasons for using aluminum tanks in cold water?

Steel is the rule for single and back-mounted bottles here in the Netherlands, whereas alumnium is the rule for stage bottles.

Where did you solo dive today?

In Vinkeveen Island 4, province of Utrecht, the Netherlands. It's a very big lake. The weather was pretty awful: rainy, high wind (force 7, Beaufort scale)), and somewhat cold (9 grades Celsius). The water temperature at maximum depth (12 metres) even colder (6 grades Celsius). I saw a big...
