Unless I missed it I did not see any mention of them in the thread but I often carry a MK13 Mod 0 military day/night flare with me. I also think they may be called a Mark 124 flare I tape it to the sheath of my knife. It is basically a smoke producing flare that emits a huge amount of orange...
Been many years since I went to a tech school to service AGA masks but there is a specific test kit that you have to use to tweak the second stage as well as a plastic card that is used as a feeler gauge. To do it properly the test kit has a squeeze bulb like a blood pressure kit and an adapter...
I have used the DRI bag before. One issue with that is that you re-use it every time. If you are conducting and underwater criminal investigation you should not re-use a bag as it could cause an issue with trace evidence analysis.
We always bagged the bodies underwater using a disposable body...
I have had to respond to a number of boating incidents whose occupants have gone overboard and boats circled them. That is why it is very important to have the kill switch lanyard attached to the operator. I have been able to foul the propeller with a line thrown across the path of the boat...
I got trapped in a wet suit while trying to remove the top and was running out of air. I hollered for help and a member of my dive team grabbed the top and gave a mighty tug and freed me. In the process he tore something important in his elbow and had to get it operated on. It was a workman's...
Divers with only Open Water certs should not be involved in public safety diving. They do not have the training or experience to dive under conditions found at many incidents. Cold, zero viz, obtructions, deep water and contaminated water are routine in PSD and until the diver is equipped and...
I understand that the reefs have been damaged. I last dove it in the sixties and where I dove it was pristine. It is a shame as itcould have been a world class dive destination. I hope people will wake up and take care of the reefs.
I bought my first double hose reg in the Philippines. It was a Voit 50 Fathom with the blue painted cans.
It is all restored now with new parts from VDH. I was 12 years old when I bought it and the year was 1967. It was a used rental regulator the US Navy was getting rid of to "upgrade" to...
It is probably leaking from the stuck valve. What do you mean by valve? Is it the overpressure relief or the auto inflator? Fix it yourself by removing, dismantling the valve and give it a good cleaning. Re-assemble and check for leaks. Problem solved.
I am also searching for one of those tanks. I have two of the PST tanks rated for 2250 but need one more to finish up a set of triples. All of the triple sets I have seen have been 2250. If memory serves me the two tanks I have were born in 1958. I have not seen any with that higher pressure...
Hi Menk,
Funny you said that as I have written a book. It is about what I did for 34 years and it is 360 pages long. However I will not publish it until I actually retire for good from my LE job, And there is quite a bit of diving stories in there that I believe most divers would enjoy reading...
I use a Conshelf 1st stage and I backed off the intermediate pressure to conserve air. You don't need 145 psi to do what you ate doing. Most of the times 90-100 psi gets the job done.
I am assuming you do not have a second stage regulator attached and have a dedicated set up just for using...
