With Il Nino coming in last year both above and under water conditions have been really hard to predict at the moment. We have had less rain in general and the cold water has been hanging around longer than I've seen in previous years! I would recommend a wetsuit! 3mm longs are generally fine...
Hi Everyone, this is Rico the owner of Geko. Yes indeed i was on holiday when you were diving with us. It is unfortunate that these incidences occur when i am not around as i would have guaranteed this would not have happened. I have personally addressed the situation with all my dive guides and...
Going from Padang Bai to Tulamben by boat would take 2.5 hours on a good day. The fuel price would make the shared trip several hundred dollars per diver... I personally enjoy the early morning drive through traditional and natural Bali, although it's a tad long.
We often get requests to allow divers and snorkelers to land to do some visits at Nusa Penida. This is unfortunately not feasible as most shore areas do not allow mooring or docking. Buyuk & Sampalan are the only areas where boats can dock and are very far from the spots of interest and require...
Just giving you guys some updates on this thread.
First, the Jetty is still dive-able. There has been more boat activity on occasion. During the G20, two Indonesian frigates docked there for the night. You guys should have seen the faces of the military when they saw me paddling my surfski...
I am dumbfounded reading this. There is no dive time limit at Geko, whether with private or shared guiding. With shared guiding of ratios 4 to 1, the first diver reaching 50bar does limit the dive time for other divers in the groups...
Reason for not allowing a buddy pair to stay behind is site...
This rumour about limiting dive time is indeed utter rubbish. There has never been and will never be any dive time limit for single tank users at Geko Dive. We do ask rebreather or multiple tanks divers to either use our private charter services or limit their runtime to 75 minutes when on a...
I'm reading this (and other threads) with much interest. I'm not one to judge what others do, but I thought I'd chime in and let the community know what we've decided to do here at Geko. This may help other operators make decisions for themselves. No matter what choices anyone currently makes...
Hey,
Sorry you did not get a reply... but we did not get an email. I just checked all deleted, spam, junk folders and there is nothing. Can you please resend at info at gekodivebali.com or even send a private message here?
Yup, here the biggest rainfall was on Saturday night. Manggis, 7 Km up the road, had no rain that night. They got showered on Sunday evening when it was dry here. Have a look at the weather forecast for next week...
Mantas are back. We had a week with no rays, when the boats could even get there as swell became outrageous. Since the last new moon and against everyone's intimate feelings (including the Indonesian weather agency), it looks like we have entered rain season. We had some heavy rainfall last week...
To me, there is indeed a site called Drop-off in Amed. It's right at the end of Jemeluk bay, the same bay as the Pyramids site. Nowadays, each dive site seems to be referred to by different names depending on who you talk to. I like the Pyramids site. I've never been impressed by the Amed...
Totally agree with Mike: there are some great macro sites in Amed. Macro gets quite seasonal and different sites seem great at different times of the year!
The non-macro sites bore me a little there though...
Yeah, social media is one thing: uncontrolled mass panic reactions, but actual media outlets doing this does annoy me.
Here is a much better report from a diver's perspective: Thai divers spot great white shark in waters off Bali
