Last minute dive trip to Ft Lauderdale / Keys, recommendations?

So we ended up not doing any diving in Ft Lauderdale, and focused on Key Largo. We went with Rainbow Reef initially, as their dive/stay packages had more options and better prices and they went to the same place. But we also planned two dives with Ocean Divers based on the suggestion here, as...

Last minute dive trip to Ft Lauderdale / Keys, recommendations?

Thanks for all the tips! For now we've booked a stay at Key Largo, and have some dives planned with Rainbow Reef and some with Ocean Divers, with a dip with dolphins as well. :) We're still working on the plans for Fort Lauderdale.

Last minute dive trip to Ft Lauderdale / Keys, recommendations?

Since I have some free time next week, my wife and I decided to take a break from our cold water California diving to visit Florida. We will be there Sunday to Saturday (And late enough Saturday that Friday diving isn't out of the question). But when it came time to looking for dive trips...

What is considered proof for high level professionals?

It doesn't seem that odd to me; when I was young doing time in food service, I was legally serving beer before I could legally drink it.

    WhitSundays Dive Sites

I recently did Hardy Reef (Off of the reefworld pontoon) and Cataran Bay off of Border Island, both were decent, but nothing absolutely mind blowing, and at both the divers were in the minority, most people were snorkeling. (And TBH, some of my favorite pictures from Cataran Bay I got by...

    What constitutes a loggable "dive"

Not a pool? You sure? Nemo 33 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I'd log that as a dive.

anyone using a Aqualung with the i3 system?

Any tips on how you did that? I was thinking of adding a crotch strap to my Dimension, and my wife wanted to do so to her Lotus.

anyone using a Aqualung with the i3 system?

I use the dimension i3; as long as you don't plan to spend a lot of time upright on the surface, I much prefer the back inflate for stability and the lack of pressing on you when it is inflated. (On the other hand, I'm sure someone out there likes that, to get a feel for the fact that it is...

Travelling with gear - bar vs psi

I'm not really worried about diving in metric as far as units of distance, while I'm certainly more accustomed to feet/inches, I'm comfortable with meters as well, and have been learning the theory of diving with an eye towards both metric and imperial units. The only wrench in the works as far...

Travelling with gear - bar vs psi

Australia, with stops near Cairns (The more dive-touristy of the destinations) and Sydney (Will be doing a shore dive with a LDS there). That sounds reasonable enough. I could probably do the requisite math in my head for these dives (Nothing will be very deep) but I'm sure the DM will have...

Travelling with gear - bar vs psi

As I will be travelling with my own gear for the first time next week, I was trying to research what to expect. I had expected the metric vs. imperial thing (And have tried to learn diving in terms of both wherever possible). However, it didn't occur to me that, as I bought a SPG for diving in...

    Nitrox table vs computer question

Both the of the local dive shops I've been to here don't carry the table crew packs for EANX. Myself, my fiancee, and the instructor all double checked with the staff about it. (The other dive shop we didn't do the lessons at doesn't even carry tables for the OW crew packs, they just teach...

    Medical Issues

Thanks for the confirmation! We had originally just planned one day of diving for our honeymoon. But after we got our certification locally, one day didn't seem enough so we tried finding more. So we have 3 trips planned now. First (and the original plan) is 2-3 dives at Agincourt Ribbon Reef...

    Medical Issues

Just to clarify (To make sure I understand the requirements) the medical is only required if people are taking courses, or answer "yes" to the medical questions, correct? Someone who is already certified and can answer "no" to all the usual medical questions won't need to do anything besides...

Anyone use an Aqua Lung Axiom? Comfortable?

I don't have the axiom, but I do have the Dimension, which (when I tried them on in the shop) seems to fit similarly to the Axiom, aside from being back inflate rather than jacket. I dive with 8 or 10lb in each pocket (Depending on exposure suit) and have no problems with it. However, that is...

    Nitrox table vs computer question

The time element is an issue for pulmonary oxygen toxicity, but that won't kill you underwater. That is a function of time. It's the CNS toxicity that kills you, due to causing convulsions, and that's purely a function of the PPO2, with no time element, and it can hit quite suddenly when it...

Started my PADI Open Water Certification today!!

If your class comes with the gear included, I would hold off until after you finish the OW dives. It will give you a better idea of how you will be using your gear and what you want. (Even if it doesn't include the gear, I would hold off.) Before I did my OW dives, I had my eye on a certain reg...

    Nitrox table vs computer question

I don't know about other training, but PADI doesn't really teach oxygen exposure anymore beyond "Do what your computer says and here is what happens if you don't". When I took the nitrox class, I had to go out and find the tables myself, just to be satisfied that I had a personal level of...

    Dump Valve

If you get one of the Aqualung i3 BCs (Pro QD i3, Axiom i3, Dimension i3, Pearl i3, Lotus i3), the dump valves are the only valves, and are both opened by the deflate mechanism. (They can also be operated manually if needed, as in other BCs.) So certainly not emergency only.

    Nitrox table vs computer question

I can't give a specific answer to your question as I just did nitrox recently, and PADI doesn't teach tables anymore... (Though I did learn them, just had to go find them myself.) However with the zoop, when calculating MOD it has an annoying feature where it adds 1% to the mix you enter. So it...
