    worthington cylinder life

Are you asking this because of the 'old' aluminum cylinder condemn policy of some dive shops ? This is a controversial issue. I found a shop that didn't buy into the hype; my 1974 aluminum 50's passed hydro testing.

    Drysuit Size Clarification

I like my Viking dry suit vs. neoprene. The suit material has no buoyancy. A neoprene suit would change buoyancy with depth. I think the 'roving bubble' problem would be caused by wearing more lead than necessary. When properly weighted, just enough air to compensate for squeeze should also...

Still snorkel, too. Vests with CO2 inflators?

I use my Fenzy (horse collar BC) for snorkeling. It has an air bottle; more capacity, refillable, can do partial inflate. Most BC's now seem to be jacket or wing, and only have low pressure inflate (or oral inflate).

Advice on Weight Belt and Knife for snorkeling and scuba

You didn't mention what (or if) BC you are using. Most BC's now only have a low pressure inflate and would be not much more than a decoration while snorkeling. An older BC with a CO-2 cartridge could give you some lift instead of dropping your weight belt. I use my Fenzy while snorkeling...

what kayak should I look for

I haven't done any kayak diving, but I have looked at the Sea Eagle Fold-Cat, the Diveyak, and the Sevylor PaddleSki.

Recommendation for recreational pony bottle size

I changed from a 72 and about 12 pony to twin 50's with a manifold: two valves and two complete regulators. I would rather have a little extra air than not enough. This was originally for redundancy for under-ice diving, but now it is my favorite rig.

    Submersible Pressure Gauge (SPG)

I still have 2 steel 72's with J-valves from when I started in the early 1970's. The Divemaster - before that was a designation - had a pressure gauge and you checked-in and -out to get your tank pressure recorded. The buoyancy compensator with an inflator hose and over-pressure relief was a...

Looking for an Ice Dive course

That sounds pretty extreme - outside my comfort zone. When we dive under the ice it is usually 30 feet depth max and 100 feet max from the hole.

Can this Old scuba tank be hydro tested any more

Before you get it hydro-tested, find out if your shop will fill it. I have twin 50's from 1974 that passed hydro and a shop that will fill them. If your shop will fill it, they should be able to get it tested.

Purge valve for mask – good or bad?

Purge masks used to be considered toys. When a macro photographer uses a purge mask, I have to defer to his opinion that they are useful and reliable.

Purge valve for mask – good or bad?

Masks with purge valves used to be considered toys. Snorkels with the ping pong ball water stop were also considered toys. I don't use a purge mask. I also prefer my non-purge snorkel. Unfortunately non-purge snorkels are now rare. Get a mask that fits well. From the other posts, purge...

Full on, and a little off

Always turn valves (scuba tank valves included) all the way on, and then back 1/4 turn - but there are exceptions. Acetylene tank valves are never turned fully open. Throttling, needle, and other flow control valves are only partially opened to the required setting. There are many techniques...

    Drysuit air distribution issue

Is the 'under suit' wooly bears, or something else ? I have thinsulate underwear for my Viking and have never had localized squeeze problems.

Buying My First Set of Gear

Do you intend to do a lot of deep or decompression diving ? If not, why not learn to use the tables ? Compare the price of a dive watch and depth gauge to a computer. On a tangent, I have a DiveNav tech buddy data logger because I could not find a computer that I liked.

    Sidemount or Backmount?

How much air do you need ? Do you want an isolation valve between the twin tanks ? I use twin 50's mounted valves-down with a Selpak manifold. I wanted two independent regulators, but not an isolation valve. I can access all of my air from either regulator. My 72's were to long to wear...

Buying first GoPro - Will head mount work? Battery length?

The only reason that I have is personal preference. I put the camera on after my mask, and don't want the straps interfering.
