I went to a long hose with bungeed second when I thought I would get into tech diving. My buddy at the time was full cave and he talked me into it. I was using a Scubapro Knighthawk BCD which worked fine. I did a cavern specialty with it at Ginnie springs. It didn't take much time to get used to...
If the DC is "throwing" away old predictions because the "idiot" diver is not following them then what's the point in making new predictions? The fact that a "good" DC has the power and memory to do parallel multiple predictions is beside the point. Again, what is gained by assuming an ascent...
Off-gassing is handled by the R term in the general form of the Schreiner equation. The ceiling and stop times then are calculated based on the tissue pressures at the current depth at the current moment. So, yes, I don't include any future off-gassing in the calculation. I'm curious. How do you...
I'm not sure what you mean by "closed-form" solution. In my spreadsheet I calculate the tissue pressures for nitrogen and helium separately, then add them together to be used to determine a ceiling with its stop times.
It's actually measuring pressure in units of depth. I wrote a spreadsheet that displays tissue compartment pressures as well as other data for a particular dive(s). Here is an excerpt from the help tab (ss = spreadsheet):
UNITS OF PRESSURE
All pressure values on the ss are displayed as absolute...
I disagree. As you know we all have different risk factors determined by age, physical shape, hydration, previous decompression stress to name a few. Baker's gradient factors allowed divers to adjust their risk factors by raising or lowering the maximum allowed pressure in the tissue...
Of course he was interested in ascents/descents in decompression calculations. For accuracy and safety decompression calculations have to take account of on-gassing and off-gassing from descents and ascents. The paper is a guide on how to program a decompression program.
Can you give Baker's actual program code? I can't but I can offer you what Baker wrote in his paper "Intro to deco lessons". In that paper he presents two subroutines that calculate a new pressure needed to calculate a new ceiling: one based on constant depth and one based on a change of depth...
I assume you're responding to my post #85. I don't get it. If you're at the surface your ceiling is zero by definition. There's no need to simulate anything. If "too short" NDL's scare people they probably should pay more attention to their DC's and begin ascending when the NDL is in the double...
In regards to Baker's "no stop time" equation I found I couldn't use it to calculate NDL time remaining because of the limitations listed in post #83. Fortunately, there is another method that can be used in every dive situation. It involves doing several calculations in a loop where the result...
I would modify the above table keeping in mind it is for new divers and want-to-be divers.
1. Two sources of gas. Your own tank with equipment in good working order and your buddies gas. Practice good buddy techniques and stay close enough to your buddy to be able to swim to him to get gas if...
Yeah. I finally realized the same thing with my wife. Women really do want to solve the problem but do it in a way that is opposite from men. Men will think about the problem, arrive at a solution, and then solve the problem. Later they will talk to their buddies about the problem and how they...
I can't give you advice about camping but I can give you some advice on the diving. There is a water taxi you can take for $10 cash at the main (?) dock. There, you can drop off your equipment and park your car in the lot which is an 1/8 mile up the road. Put on all of your equipment on near the...
I have a Perdix (no air integration) and use it in rec mode. You can configure the display to show GF99 and SurfGF on the bottom row. I prefer rec mode as the safety stop is controlled automatically. I've used the OC tec mode and found I had to start and stop a timer manually when I began my...
Really?! You realize that besides myself there are a few other divers on this thread who signal only the first two numbers of gas remaining. In some cases that system depends on context. For example, my buddy signals 2 then 1. Does he mean 2100 psi or 210 psi? Which is it? Well, without grilling...
Perhaps, but the point is that the closed fist is LESS prone to being made sloppily than the "O" signal, and isn't clearer less confusing communication the goal?
The principle involved in buoyancy is called Archimedes Principle and is captured in this equation:
B = VD - W
According to the equation the buoyant force B is the difference between the weight of the water displaced by the object (VD) that causes you to float, and the dry weight (W) of the...
