Comments: Looking for my own boat, but in the mean time willing to share gas and/or charter to get under water! I dig laying on the bottom of the gulf watching my bubbles get bigger.
Did Homosassa for scallops over the weekend. Surprising number of them for this late in the season, and a good time was had by all. Next weekend is the last, so now or never! Or at least until July 2013.
Went out to Looe key (that's not where we shot lion fish), and it was the worst vis I've seen there. Sea was rough and our boat was a little too small for it, so we didn't end up out at any of the wrecks either. Guess I'll just need to make a return trip in the neat future.
Finally back out on the water, and vis is about the same as the Gulf around TB. Still, the reefs are nice. Lionfish are are a bit too common, but at least they are delicious.
Bad news is that it has been 5 weeks since I've been under water. Good news is that I have a house in the keys for a week starting Sat, and a friend's boat at the dock.
This will be the first time we've done this, and I can ask over on the keys forum but rather like the advice from my TB...
You can find them on the shore but they are more plentiful in the water. Basically take a strainer of some sort and scoop/sift sand. Easier on scuba but you can do this snorkeling too.
Spanish Rocks is cheap (being a shore dive), accessible (being a shore dive), and a great place for a meetup (being a shore dive). That being said, I haven't dove there. Anyone interested in that on Sat July 7?
