Normal guy seeks dive buddies near Newport, OR

Did you find any buddies? If not message me, we have a group that dives every couple of weeks... mostly Florence. John

Before I take the plunge on a dry suit, some questions.

Just a thought but if budget is an issue... Have you thought about an open cell wetsuit? 55 is fairly warm here in Oregon and we're fine in a 7mm mako. I do like to fill mine with a thermos of warm water before the dive, that way you don't have to heat it with your body. They're only $270...

D rings for 1" shoulder webbing on Hydros Pro

I think that would work great with my pony when slung. Currently I use the bottom weight pocket d ring but that makes it more difficult to remove the weight. This would put it nicely behind the pocket. Thanks for the tip. With that and enlarged chest rings I should be good for most...

D rings for 1" shoulder webbing on Hydros Pro

Found them, ordering parts to do mine and my buddies hydros. Thanks for the help. Little worried about pushing the pins out, definitely only going to push them out far enough to slide the webbing out. It's just a friction retained right?

D rings for 1" shoulder webbing on Hydros Pro

Thanks again, yet another question. If I wanted to add another somewhere where would I get the back part, my best research has only revealed a 2" t slider, Google can't find a 1". Is it called something else? John

D rings for 1" shoulder webbing on Hydros Pro

Thanks, another question. The link shows just the ring, what is the flat part behind it that keeps it on the webbing? I incorrectly assumed they were connected but now that I look more closely it's separate. John

Where do you get these round rings, I can't seem to find them anywhere.

    First slinger rigging

It's a 19cf. Seems to line up well with my chest and waist D ring. Plan to do with it? Carry it on every dive and never use it unless the shtf or we're practicing OOA. My dive buddy and I work with chemicals and ERT, we are used to and comfortable with redundancy that is only used for...

    First slinger rigging

I get it now, once you wrap the neck you only have to adjust the tension on the bottom. As far as time consuming I find it relaxing to work on stuff like this, love to weave paracord while watching TV in the evenings. I might redo it when we rig my buddies bottle, that way we would...

    First slinger rigging

First time rigging up a pony bottle. I looked at a lot of posts and the GUE post that gets referenced often and made my own tweaks. Didn't have cave line, had lots of paracord. Couldn't find the car inner tube.... don't really understand why all of the rigs I've seen only has a hose clamp...

    Initial descent panic

It's what we were trained to do in open water. I had just done a weighting with the instructor and he said I was correct.... buoyant with a full lung, drop quickly with empty lungs. I had never heard of kicking down on scuba but it would definitely seem more natural.

    Initial descent panic

Glad to hear it's not just me, nobody else I've talked to has that issue. It's just a mental thing, doing my standard freedive entry sounds much better...I can deal with being "that guy":) John

    Initial descent panic

I would guess the difference is descending with empty lungs when I'm used to having them as full as possible. Definitely interested in descending more like a freedive...I just thought it was considered bad form. I'll try that on my next dive, thanks for the tip

    Initial descent panic

I do try to breathe up and just do an exaggerated exhale at the end. It's just the feeling of descending with empty lungs that sets off all the warning bells in my head. I get past it, just wondering if it eventually goes away... maybe all the freediving set my brain for a giant breath...

    Initial descent panic

Hi all, My question is about panic on descent. I have been freediving for years and am pretty comfy in the water. The problem is with scuba, when I empty my lungs for decent there is about 5 seconds where my body is screaming at me that this is wrong. Once I get down 5 feet and start...
