What would you do different, if you had PADI OW certification to do all over again?

I know it sounds trite, but I wouldn't do anything differently and you learn from your mistakes. I had a great experience during my open water dives, but they were in cold, zero vis water, and very basic. My instructoer was good and made sure we passed all of our skills. Now that I have a few...

Deep diving as a goal - the stigma.

For the most part, I thank you all for your responses. They were informative and educational. Two weeks from now my local dive site (AKA: the local quarry, 80 feet max) opens up. I can't wait to get under the water again. I have already registered for some more classes and have a bunch of dives...

Deep diving as a goal - the stigma.

TMHeimer thanks for your reply. I certainly don't plan on setting any records. I'll leave those to Nuno Gomes. PRs are my thing, so far. my PR is 42 feet. That isn't much, but I love diving and plan to hit at least 88 feet this summer.

Deep diving as a goal - the stigma.

First: a couple of thoughts, second: a couple of caveats, third: my question. First: Yes, I am pretty new to diving. As you can see, I have less than 25 logged dives. Also, I don't plan to move into tech or deep diving anytime soon, but it is in my future. Second: I realize that deep diving...

    Long Hose/Bungeed Back up/No Snorkel

Obviously there might be times when you might need a snorkel, but we are all divers (under water). All of my diving (all freshwater so far) definitely didn't require a snorkel. I'll practice the long hose deployment with a snorkel, but in my recreational dives, I don't plan to have one attached...

    Scuba diving and smoking

Yeah, I know I'm posting to an old thread, but I feel that it is an important one. I smoked for 8 years and recently (4 months smoke free)quit. When you quit, your entire life gets better. Diving is better, walking/running is better, not to mention, I'm a single guy and the girls like me better...

    Long Hose/Bungeed Back up/No Snorkel

It's interesting that you mentioned clipping off the SPG. My OW instructor insisted that we clip it off to prevent it from floating all over the place and hitting the bottom, getting tangled, etc. So I've always clipped mine off. For weighting, I have ditchable pockets attached to my harness...

    Long Hose/Bungeed Back up/No Snorkel

Thanks to everyone for the great information. I will definitely talk to my instructor to hear their thoughts on my rig before the class. I currently dive a BP/W and used one for my open water class. The instructor was totally fine with it, he actually thanked me, since he could use me as an...

    Long Hose/Bungeed Back up/No Snorkel

I'm new to diving, but I already know that down the road (read: far down the road), I plan to get into technical and cave diving. I've been doing tons of research into DIR and DIR gear set-up and want to go that route. My question is: when taking my PADI AOW class and Rescue Diver class, will...
