    Ikelite TTL Converters?

Cool. Unfortunately, we are on a different boat. The Caribbean Tigress. I think we will only have 8 divers on board. May 6-13 to be precise.

Diving with an Asthma rescue inhaler

Thanks for the informative responses. I also know someone trying to design a device for this purpose which is the main reason I asked the question to begin with, although having a bit of asthma myself, it is something that interests me personally as well (I've never had an episode underwater in...

Diving with an Asthma rescue inhaler

No, I'm not looking for justification for something I want to do. I've done hundreds of dives over the years and asthma has never been an issue. I don't need justification to dive. Like I said, my dive doctor cleared me for diving after conducting many tests. What I'm looking for is the...

Diving with an Asthma rescue inhaler

At least one sanctimonious response is always to be expected here, but I posted this question anyway in the hopes that useful, potentially lifesaving information might come to light. Unfortunately, people like you discourage such discourse which only increases risk. I know many divers with...

Diving with an Asthma rescue inhaler

Background info My DAN-approved doctor has cleared me for diving, and I have had no problems after hundreds of dives. My asthma is well controlled. However, occasionally, when I sneeze, I sometimes start wheezing. And I have sneezed a few times underwater. So, out of an abundance of...

    Ikelite TTL Converters?

Yeah it does seem that way. But elsewhere, it said that TTL converter is included. That's what threw me off. But upon continuing research it seems like that was for the older ikelite housings, not the newer one.

    Ikelite TTL Converters?

So I'm about 2 weeks away from my Tubbataha liveaboard trip, and I woke up in the middle of the night wondering how my 2 ikelite strobes communicate with the camera. (This will be the first time I've used strobes with this system) I've got a D810 with a 200DL housing and two DS-161's attached...

Great Whites, the Yongala, and the GBR in Feb - advice needed pls

Thanks for the info! I'm getting a better idea of how things work out there. Now my only concern is the weather, but it seems way too early to predict what conditions might be like in a few months. I suppose if the weather is good, we could do Yongala/GBR. If not, then perhaps Port Lincoln...

    Another question about no-fly times

Hi Karl, this won't be a liveaboard. I'm not nitrox certified yet, so while I might take the course during the trip, I wouldn't take that into my calculations just yet. As far as health, we are both in our 30's (ok, ok, closer to 40) and pretty healthy. Thanks for all the info! ----------...

    Another question about no-fly times

Thanks, Japan-diver. I've never really free-dived, so I probably won't be doing that on this trip. My only other option would be to snorkel, but that comes with limitations too. I'm thinking that after 5 days of 3/dives each, it might be ok to miss one final dive day and do the dolphin dive...

    Another question about no-fly times

Please correct me if I'm wrong as you are far most experienced than I am. But from what I understand, there is no such thing as 0% DCS risk when it comes to diving. So if that is indeed true, it's all a matter of risk tolerance, not risk avoidance.

    Another question about no-fly times

No, I'm not comfortable with a 5% chance of DCS. I said less than 5%, and to be more specific, meant more like 1-2%, but I didn't bother getting that specific because it's a moot point anyway since there's no way we can calculate the likelihood of a hit with such accuracy. Perhaps a 1%-2%...

    Another question about no-fly times

Boulderjohn, I am usually pretty risk tolerant, but since my wife will be joining me on this trip, I would not go for it unless the chance of DCS in this situation was less than 5%. While we can't really gauge probability that accurately, the feeling I get from the posts here is that the chance...

    Another question about no-fly times

Thanks for the advice guys. Since I'd have 20-24 hours in between my Day 5 and Day 6 dives, I had assumed that I would be totally desaturated for the Day 6 dive. Apparently this is not the case, so I will cut the diving short by one day. Just for the sake of knowledge, though, would most...

    Another question about no-fly times

So 24 hours is not enough time to fully desaturate after a week of diving? I ask because assuming one is fully desaturated, a shallow dive followed by a flight 6 hours later should be fine based on a majority of opinions expressed in similar threads. The only difference between my...

    Another question about no-fly times

If it was a regular dive, I would not even be tempted. The scheduled day 6 dive, however, is a dolphin dive. I suppose it's up to us how deep we go. Perhaps just going to 5m would be safer. We also have other options: 1) Cancel our day 5 dives and do the dolphins instead (would rather not...

    Another question about no-fly times

Hi All, I would appreciate your opinions on the following plan: Days 1-5: Three dives per day (typical Palau dive plans) Day 6: One dive to 9m with a bottom time of less than 30 min (scheduled at noon) Day 6: International flight 9 hours later. What are your thoughts on flying 9 hours after...

Great Whites, the Yongala, and the GBR in Feb - advice needed pls

Hi All, We have about 10 days in Australia but also need to squeeze in some time for business ;). I figure we will have basically have 2 long weekends for diving (3 nights or so each) with a few days of work in between. We would love to do the shark cage dives, the Yongala, and the GBR (I...

    Is Palau liveaboard-only

Thanks for the advice, all. Based on the advice here, we decided to go with the land-based option for 4 reasons: 1) Cost is one third the price of a liveaboard, 2) Land-based still gives us 3 dives per day, 3) Living on these boats seems a bit confining (things to do, food options, wifi), 4) We...

    Is Palau liveaboard-only

Thanks! This has been very helpful. Seems like Sam also offers unlimited shore diving on their wall so if 2 dives/day isn't enough, this might be a good option. Has anyone here dived Sam's wall? Any opinions on how decent a dive site it is?
