    Out of air incident

I remember TS&M's popular thread about panic among experienced divers - it certainly happens and it's hard to judge what "should" and "should not" have led to a panic situation in another diver. If I recall from the thread, most couldn't have really predicted it and are embarassed when it...

    Weight and Trim help

Hey y’all. After a few years’ diving hiatus, I returned with quite a bit of buoyancy and trim issues. Wondering if anyone has suggestions… I’m 5’7 female, 120 lbs. diving in warm waters with 1mil to 3 mil shorties. AL80 usually (though this trip I toggled between this and an AL63, I think)...

When is it okay to abandon your dive buddy?

That's beautiful! I think I might book it now.

When is it okay to abandon your dive buddy?

I'll bet there are a whole heck of a lot of divers out there who get a chance to dive once or twice a year in a tropical place and never become (or haven't yet become) dilignet, careful, skilled divers who can keep their head. I know two at least but we're working on it because we love diving :)...

When is it okay to abandon your dive buddy?

Hahaha. I totally agree. I’d have everyone looking at me trying to figure out where the shark is. I tend to hyper analyze everything that happens underwater…maybe a good thing, maybe not, lol

When is it okay to abandon your dive buddy?

All great points! I always appreciate what you have to say. I’ve dove with family members before and I always felt so protective of them - way different than diving with some rando on a boat. I never felt the need to do much communication ahead of time bc..well, it’s my SISTER and I’d die...

When is it okay to abandon your dive buddy?

A few clarifications…it wasn’t an Insta buddy, it was my spouse. I don’t think I would expect much of anyone I just met, but a long time dive buddy or partner I feel like there’s surely a greater sense of “I got your back”. We had just taken a refresher course as it had been a couple years...

When is it okay to abandon your dive buddy?

I may be fishing here…. My dive buddy and I, along with a small group, were following the DM through a series of swim throughs. We got a little spaced out and I watched the DM and the 3 other divers ahead drop pretty quickly out of site. When I got to the spot they disappeared from I saw the...

Failed my Day 1 PADI Pool Training

Thanks for your post. I can absolutely relate. The first time I attempted to get SCUBA certified, I was a hot mess. I somehow managed to make it to the check out dives, but went into full blown panic when it was time to demonstrate skills. I had never experienced panic attacks prior to SCUBA...

    Dive trip w/infant and nanny??

That's a really good point, and something I hadn't really thought of!

    Dive trip w/infant and nanny??

LOL. Valid question! ....But it's because I couldn't leave her for that long! Exclusive breastfeeding makes it tough too.

    Dive trip w/infant and nanny??

So, after being preggo and unable to scuba for nine months, hubby and I are anxious to take our next dive trip. The caveat is that our nanny and infant will be along. What would be a good, safe place to go where the husband and I can do some quick morning dives, but have some family beach time...

Any decent diving in Boracay or Palawan?

I'm going to be in the Philippines in April of next year - 4 days in Boracay and 10 days in El Nido and Tay Tay, Palawan. The main reason I'm going is do my AIDA2 Freediving Certification (and, well, because these two places are on my non-diving bucket list!) I'm not going to haul my gear, but...

Major Freak Out - What should I have done differently?

I wish my tone could be easily conveyed through text, but since it can't I will say I mean this as respectfully as possible :)...Did you actually read my story of what happened? (sorry, I really mean no disrespect!) I have done lots of swim throughs in Cozumel over the years. In fact, the dive...

Major Freak Out - What should I have done differently?

AWAP, I appreciate your input :) but I have to say this "peer pressure" to keep up with the group (whether imagined or real) might have been something that contributed to my poor judgement and indecision in this matter. While underwater making all of these decisions I was heavily influenced by...

In your Opinion, what are the responsibilities of a DM?

Thanks boulderjohn! Until I went to Bonaire recently, this was 100% my experience. Cozumel, Tahiti, Hawaii...Every dive op I used in my first 50 dives literally did everything for me. I just naively assumed this was the way diving was! A few experiences after that taught me I was gravely...

Major Freak Out - What should I have done differently?

Nasser and Wingy, thank you for the book recommendations. Already started Scuba Confidential and I think it will be life changing (or dive changing rather)! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
