What was the best thread you have seen on Scuba Board?

My vote goes to: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/basic-scuba-discussions/228336-funniest-diving-quotes-you-have-heard.html Almost crying from laughing so much at some points.

How to get warm in 57-degree Fahrenheit water

Well, the first thing (other than the mask issue) that I noticed is that your buddy must be really good at navigation so there's no need for long surface swims, since he seems to have forgotten his snorkel....;)

How to get warm in 57-degree Fahrenheit water

Just got certified end of October. My last dive, water temp was about 50*, air temp similar. I was comfortable in and out of the water for 3-4 hours in just a 7mm john (so, 14mm core). Very toasty, no sign of shivering until it came time to go back to street clothes in the parking lot.

Can't get horizontal in the water??

Another option that might work to change your COG: DH1 - IST Sports. Basically, trim pockets for your thighs. Haven't played with them myself, but read a really good review on them.

Trip to Honolulu and Key West

Haven't done a dive in Key West, but we dove with Key Dives (Key Dives Guided Scuba Diving in Islamorada in the Florida Keys) on Islamorada when we stayed in Largo. They're a great op, and put a guide in the water for every 6 divers, so they're great for new people (like me).

Rules of thumb for comfort at various water temps??

For me: 45-50*F to 70* - 7mm john - It's what I own. In 80* water: tshirt, bcd, swim trunks....

    Diving Locations on East Coast

No problem. I've been lucky enough to find some amazingly detailed maps and lists for my state, so I figured I would try to give you a hand.

    Diving Locations on East Coast

Also may be useful: Delaware Diving Doesn't give locations or such, but it gives names, which may help you find them.

    Diving Locations on East Coast

Can't help you in that region, as I'm a bit north of you (Maine). However, a quick google search for DE dive clubs yields a result you might email for more info: Dive Club Name: Deleware Underwater Swim Club City: Wilmington State: DE Dive Club Email...

    Why wear swimsuit under wetsuit??

+1 to the speedo trunks / boxer style. One should always wear something under the wetsuit - especially if changing on beaches / parking lots.

Cool picture in SCUBA DIVING magazine

LOL. I swear, 2 weeks ago, I thought I was the only one in the world who wanted to dive in Iceland. Now, everywhere I turn, someone is talking about doing exactly that.... Bizarre. I would LOVE to dive between the tectonic plates - that just looks so cool....

    Need advice on mask buy

While you can't beat trying on a mask for a sure fit, I bought this one, and I LOVE it. Low volume, soft, comfortable, well-sealing silicone, wide view, and quite inexpensive. My wife and I both have them and swear by them (even more since we added Slap Straps to them). Cressi Big Eyes Black...

How many SB'ers have you met?

None yet, because I am new to diving and the board, and because I live in an area with water too cold for most of the people I talk to.... If I'd gotten on the board before I went to Key Largo this past fall, that number might be higher, but I live in Maine, land of the cold, dark water, and...

    Scuba Claus

HMm.... I thought that, according to PADI anyway, snorkels were mandatory gear.... They're also handy if you're at depth and a buddy you don't like much is OOG... Just hand off your snorkel... Hmm... maybe I'm getting coal too...

Estimating Weight Needed for New BCD

As a recently cert'd diver, I can feel your pain on this one. I have 36lbs of lead (mostly in 4s and 5s, I believe) and ended up using 32lbs of it with my 7mm john during the OW class (although I have about 15 lbs on you), just to be negative enough to feel comfortable with mask clearing and...

    Tip for OW classes?

I can't comment much on the tipping of the DM, as my OW class was a 1:1 with the instructor due to his inability to find other interested students in October in Maine. I will say, however, that even though I paid him for his time, I felt the class was so worthwhile and he did such a great job...

Newly certified - any one day courses we can take next?

If you are going to the keys for diving, I recommend going to Islamorada and diving through Key Dives. They were awesome when we went in October. They put a guide in the water for every 6 divers. I don't remember one of our guides, but Stacy was awesome. We only had 6-7 people, and 2 guides...
