    Best Military Dive locations

Forgive me if it is already mentioned but I had a great experience diving with Coastal Scuba in North Myrtle Beach, SC. They were simply awesome. I don't have enough good things to say about them.

    Nitrox!

I haven't read all of the posts so please forgive me if I repeat something that is already mentioned. Does the brand of reg you have make diving safer? Does the brand of BC you dive make diving safer? Unless you're diving something either extremely cheap or old, the chances are that they do...

    Are Kayaks Dangerous?

I'm going to preface this by stating I have never dived from a kayak so I don't have any actual experience with it. That being said, I believe that the rules for boat diving apply to kayak diving. There should always be one person on the boat so one should think there should always be one...

Two Scuba divers killed by a speedboat

I agree. I think it is despicable that the law places fault on the diver who is displaying a dive flag instead of on the bone-head who doesn't steer clear of a vessel or float displaying a diver down flag or alpha flag. I think there should be more stringent requirements for boat operators and...

    'Regular Agency' Standards re: disabilities?

This sub-forum is always so inspiring by seeing the determination of the human spirit. I sure am looking forward to the day my fiance (who has CP) gets scuba certified!

Shadow Divers: John Chatterton's Interview with ScubaBoard

So what GG's book all boils down to is a poorly marketed yet plausible opinion on the events surrounding the U-869? Got it. As one Amazon user stated in his review: Also, thanks Bouyant1 for pointing out the good publications GG has offered up to us who are so passionate about this sport.

    Updates From Baghdad....

Yeah, I'd say FedEx is responsible for getting you guys home on time! I think FedEx should have to pay all of the troops affected by the termination of the contract all of their pay and entitlements for the amount of time FedEx has caused them to be stranded over there! Just my 2 cents worth.

Shadow Divers: John Chatterton's Interview with ScubaBoard

I have a problem with someone who self-publishes as there are no editors or other fact checkers in the loop and the books become a "pat-myself-on-the-back" approach at the expense of others. I haven't read GG's book (nor am I going to) but it seems from the reviews I have read that he is merely...

    A little help with OPSEC

You might want to enquire as to who LTG. William Caldwell's aid-de-camp is then contact that person directly. You stand a better chance of getting an interview with the good general by going through the person who manages his schedule.

    A little help with OPSEC

I'm not much of a blogger (I've written a total of 3 so far) but having been a leader in combat, OPSEC is intentionally left vague so that commanders can apply as much or as little as necessary. You might also want to review what the UCMJ has to say as the military are under different set of...

A puffer fish bit off a diver's finger!

I recently saw a video on youtube where another diver gets his finger bitten by a puffer for doing the exact same thing. I'm not sure when the actual incident occured but it only goes to show when the wildlife feels threatened, they defend themselves. Chalk one up for the wildlife!

    BS this Sunday..March 15th??

Knock on wood, I haven't gotten the flu and I refuse to get the flu shot. Hopefully I'll stay fit as a fiddle and not be out of commission for diving...now if I can just get my tanks visual-ed.

    Diver Drowns at Ginnie Springs

I haven't heard anything yet so I sit patiently and wait for the official report.

The importance of briefing your dive plan to a non-diving person

I like it, I think it could use three additional things. They are as follows below: 1. Instructions on how to fold & wrap/heat seal in plastic 2. Possibly a dotted line for showing where to cut along around the edge of the card. 3. A space for suspected diving injury since the card will be...

    Scottish knomes on tour

My brother recently made a visit to the Tartan Museum in Franklin, North Carolina because his wife is half Scottish in her ancestry. When the museum tour guide saw my brother's facial features he asked if my brother was Scottish as well. My brother explained our family lineage and learned that...

The importance of briefing your dive plan to a non-diving person

I would also like to add a word of caution to leaving a note on your dash as it lets those with bad intentions know precisely how much time they have to break into your vehicle. This practice should only be done in the most secure or remote of areas so you don't find your valuables and/or...

The importance of briefing your dive plan to a non-diving person

Almost any local Army-Navy Surplus Store is able to have them made up. Additionally, if you want to go the online route, Ranger Joe's or U.S .Cavalry both are able to produce them. U.S. Cavalry also has a little bit better of a slection for colors (black, silver or red).

The importance of briefing your dive plan to a non-diving person

There are several great ideas mentioned in this thread, some I will certainly put into practice. I especially like Ber_Rabbit's post about emergency contact numbers and the idea of dogtags by Meng_Tze. Texting or calling "feet wet" & "feet dry" are also very good ideas. Thanks everyone for...
