    New Diver, Own Boat

Greetings and welcome hoffhall Your boat is a tad small and as others have already indicated, it's time for a bigger boat. On the question on diving from an unmanned vessel, that is never a good idea IMHO. I equate that with just grabbing a tank off the rack, not checking the air pressure...

    Are you a vegetarian?

Hey I'm on the sea food diet. see food - eat it Love it all....beef, chicken, sea food, sushi!!!!! (aka bait) Sea food on a live aboard doesn't seem odd at all. Although the sushi chef's get a bit upset when you yell "hey I found Nemo" as you dive in....... Cheers Steve

Diver dies on French Reef (Keys)

Mike Your not getting me to reassess the odds related to the probability of detection of persons in the water. Binoculars and polarizing lenses are all good tools to have, height helps - but at the end of the day even a person wearing a bright orange type I PFD is going to look like a...

Diver dies on French Reef (Keys)

Greetings Mike I would not have made any assessment based on the original report - but that's me. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Subsequent reports have offered contradictory information - 2 to 3 foot seas, no current, lots of sun, and surfacing more than 200 yards from the...

Diver dies on French Reef (Keys)

I agree that any vessel that is u/w would be able to respond to a detected problem quicker than any vessel which is moored or at anchor. However even when u/w there will still be blind spots and directions of limited visibility. And you have to detect the problem. Search and Rescue teams...

Diver dies on French Reef (Keys)

No it doesn't Short drift lines are great for those who are near the boat. Boats should not and will not drop hundreds of yards of drift line into the water. Skiff's would be nice - but if no one see's you they are of no value. The next time you are out in the channel islands - skip the...

Diver Indicted in 2003 GBR mishap

Maybe not in the US but this occurred in Australia. Maybe one of our Aussie friends can enlighten us on the legal requirements for conviction down under - and the possible crimes that he might be charged with. The guy goes out and buys a book on currents and the wreck - then goes back and...

    Intro-to-Cave with GDI

It was just a drill - just a kick off and a little fun:) - there were several points to be taken away from the exercise Line placement - make it easy to find your way out or reel it up That you don't need to take the reel out - reel's are cheap when compared to life Identifying your...

Greetings All:) This past weekend it was up to me and Inkdiver (Don) to make sure that Rick (GDI) had lots of fun at Ginnie Springs - I think we (I) did an excellent job too - I can still hear Rick chuckling through his reg. If you haven't read it yet, please be sure to see Inkdiver's...

What regs do you use for tech diving and why?

I dive M1's and love them. They are a bit pricey to rebuild with Cristo-Lube packing. But they breath easy. I don't dive in really cold water so I can't answer questions about free flows Cheers Steve
