Hello Josh,
I just completed a Cavern Class with JOHN ORLOWSKI at Peacock Springs this weekend (12-13 Nov 05). I am an AOW Instructor from Nashville and just had my first weekend off in months. I wanted to get started on my path to Cave diving (Something I had never done in the Navy Dive...
Hello CD,
I knew someone who normally had nosebleeds on the surface about once a month. He took Scuba lessons and everything was going well (no clearing issues) and on the next dive he had a blood in his mask on desent for no good reason. It turned out he was forgetting to add air to his...
Hello sirpatty79,
I see by your profile that you are a Instructor/ Assistant/ or DM. Are you learning to dry suit dive on you own or have you taken a class or have another Dry suit qualified Instructor helping you? Dry suit diving can be a little tricky at first but opens up a whole new...
Stephen,
I saw, touched and ordered it all (including both wings) 1 month ago. It looked and felt like a quality rig. I will let you know how it test's out when it comes in. Regards
Alan
Thanks Kriterian,
I followed your link and discovered I naturally use the BTV technique to equalize. It has been difficult to explain in the past because I just sort of "flex" muscles back by my eustachian tubes. I have never had to Valsalva. Thanks again. You are never too old to learn...
Hi Joan,
Welcome aboard. I agree with Scubagolf. Many new students find it much easier to use a translucent 3 window mask that fits properly. All of the Divers who have responded have given you sound advice. Just take your time and relax in the water. Acheive small goals. Let us know how you...
Hello Matt,
I have owned a MK10/ G250 since the late 80s and have never had a failure with it. I still carry the MK10 in my dive bag as a back up 1st stage. There is nothing wrong with the Reg you have now. If you want to update go to a high quality dive shop that has an indoor pool and try...
Hello Skeet,
I have seen enough natural light at 175 at San Clemente Island (off California), that you did not need a light and 0 natural light on a 300 HeO2 Hard Hat Dive off Key West Florida. I dont recall the actual depth when it really started to go dark but I believe it was just...
Hi Julie,
I am new to the SCUBA Board and I am not sure if you are still following this thread but I am a Navy Deep Sea Diver. I retired 3 years ago from Pearl Harbor Hawaii. I have been a Navy diver since 1979. I would be happy to answer any question you have and can put your son in...
Dont worry about the brands, bells and whistles until you have tried a bunch of different masks from different Dive Shops. Be wary of a shop where All of them fit. Pick from those that actually fit you. I prefer a low volume mask and use a Scuba Pro Black Frameless mask. Happy Diving...
My 15 minutes was also my most humbling as the 1st set of Deep Sea Divers down on TWA Flight 800 off of New York at 10:00 PM off the First Navy Salvage Ship To arrive. By best 15 minutes was being in the Honolulu New Paper with both of my sons when Men of Honor came out...
You know you're vintage when----
The very young dive guide on the boat asks you if you need any help putting on your regulator and you just take a slow breath, smile and say "No thanks, I think I can manage".
Alan
Hello Mark,
I may be dating myself but when I first attended Navy Dive school we did use single hose regulators (US Divers Conshelf 12s) but a few double hose regs were available. I eventually bought one from a swap meet and grabbed every spare part for it I could come across...
Thanks for the warm welcome Doc (Alan Mayfield),
How is the diving in Greece? I had a buddy in the Navy that was from Crete and used to talk about it all the time.
Alan
