    Corona Del Mar

If I remember correctly, it's at a state beach so it costs $10 to park but they have bathroom facilities there. It's a flat sandy bottom, easy entry, sort of like Redondo Beach but cleaner. I didn't see too much the time I was there...

Congratulations to ADP 2005! Question: What are you going to do with all your free weekends, now? ;)

    Local Nitrox Class

As far as I know, only the LA County ADP class is allowed to do dives there, for training purposes. I've also dived at Lake Perris, but recently heard they were draining the lake a bit to prevent the dam from failing...(?) Don't feel like you're missing out, though, I never saw anything...

    Chocolate Lobster Dive gripes

Another thought: how about a discount for repeat customers? Reduced entry fee for those who participated last year (or those who will participate next year). It'll keep them coming back! ;) I agree with Jim: there is some kind of a psychological barrier that needs to be overcome when you hit...

    Chocolate Lobster Dive gripes

Hi, Kelly, Thanks for your responsiveness to these concerns. I've always loved the event, and regularly recommend the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium as having the best exhibit on local marine life, bar none. Thanks also for being open to suggestions. As you hear from the various comments some of us...

    Chocolate Lobster Dive gripes

Wow, you're right. I didn't even notice. Who's doing their marketing, anyway???? Here's a link to an old article on this dive site. Diving is pretty much muck diving: http://www.geocities.com/sandeaters/sites/cabrillo.html

    Chocolate Lobster Dive gripes

The Chocolate Lobster Dive has been pretty good to me, prize-wise, in the past few years, but I don't know if I'll participate this year. It's now a dive-a-thon, and if you don't want to get sponsors you can still sign up as an individual. However, the non-museum-member fee is $60, which I think...

LA County Advanced Diver Program (ADP)

Jewey4, if you have trouble clearing your ears, let the instructors know. The pool bail-out is really not difficult to do (it's just difficult to do gracefully ;) ), but it *does* require you to be able to clear your ears very quickly.

LA County Advanced Diver Program (ADP)

That one they save for their instructor program ;). Did you go through the LA County instructor program or did you do the ditch and recovery in ADP? I know the ADP program used to be a lot more rigorous in years past.

LA County Advanced Diver Program (ADP)

Now, now, we're trying to keep the tests relevant to scuba diving, right? But how cool would THAT be? :D I meant scuba bail-outs, done in the pool. Jump in the deep end of the pool with all your gear in your arms, and put it on underwater. Believe me, you get to know your gear veeerrry well...

LA County Advanced Diver Program (ADP)

I'll pass along your request. They have had lectures on principles of tech diving, and they do cover some topics such as the rule of thirds, at a very introductory level. If you are specifically interested in particular topics, ask if the instructors can cover it during their lecture. And if...

Hm. You're really not going to like the bail-outs, then!

LA County Advanced Diver Program (ADP)

I don't think they covered VPM, but Karl Huggins lectured on deep stops as well as RGBM, DCIEM, doppler-based models, Navy dive tables and how they were constructed and changed over the years, the development of most of the recreational dive tables out there, bent goats...and lots of other...

LA County Advanced Diver Program (ADP)

Glad to hear you're all looking forward to ADP! I went through it myself in 2003 and loved it! In fact you'll probably see me at some of the beach dives, as all ADP alumni are welcome to come and do fun dives (but you can't join the classes or interfere), and join the bbqs afterward. Some...

What do you do for a living?

LOL! I'll have to remember that line... I usually launch into a description of what I do with great enthusiasm only to realize that people's eyes have glazed over. :dontgetit I do market research, and am currently working on projects for some utilities in CA. I also teach scuba part...

Having wife / girlfriend as dive buddy

Maybe you could both take some advanced or specialty scuba courses? Maybe you can also privately tell the instructor of your concerns, and ask that you two be paired up with other people as dive buddies. That way your wife won't have you as a crutch, and yet you won't have to be the bad guy to...

It Never Rains in So. California

Hi, Dr. Bill! I wandered upon this website one rainy CA day a few years back, and still check in on rainy, undivable days. It always makes me laugh. http://www.id.ucsb.edu/lovelab/

    LA County Diver

Hello divers! I've been diving for over four years, most of it in cold So Cal waters. I was filling out the "dive info" in my profile and noticed that Los Angeles County was not listed under "certification agencies". Did you all know that LA County was the first recreational scuba...
