    Compressing Helium Mixtures

I dunno about "safe," but I've run 55% through my Bauer. It does make a higher pitch sound when you turn on the gas, but other than that, I haven't noticed much difference, including temperatures.

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

Dived Ballbuster yesterday. Vis was 50ish, bright and blue. Plenty of nettles from 15-25 ft. There were some 8-10 footers rolling in, so we bagged a second dive. Caught 11 crab in the traps, and man, it was rockin' and rollin' when we picked up the traps. Wind picked up to 20+kts.

    Diving Dec.

Don't kid yourself. If you usually get cold, you're gonna freeze in a 7mm wetsuit in Monterey, especially in December, when land temperatures are cold enough that you'll find it difficult to warm up on the surface intervals. And if you're boat diving, forget it, you'll need a drysuit. The...

    Dive at Monterey

Most of us dive weekends, but there area a few who dive during the week. Are you ok with cold water diving? 7mm wetsuit with hooded vest or a drysuit?

30 ft of vis yesterday at the Gray Zone, no nettles and a TON of bigger rockfish, along with some senoritas and young-of-year rockfish. A tad green, but vis was better than I've seen it in weeks.

Fun with Sea Lions at lobos rocks

That looks vaguely familiar. ;) I'm glad that we did both dives there.

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

We had 30-40 ft of vis at Lobos Rocks today. It got a little cloudy on the second dive and vis dropped a bit. Seas were a little rough coming back, even though the forecast was for fairly flat seas.

A dark dive at Bluefish Cove

So true! The telltale marks on those guys is the "mascara" around the eyes.

A dark dive at Bluefish Cove

Winter brings storms and huge waves/swells that make it unpassable around the rocks via shore diving. I have a small inflatable boat that I use for Point Lobos. I unroll it from the back of my truck, put on the 6hp motor, and go diving. Kayaks work, too. It is definitely worth it to get over...

Haskel booster, 5 stage filter and homemade gas blending station for SALE

Haskel makes AGD boosters. I suspect the "G" looks like a "C" on the label.

Best Method for Rough Entries/Exits (Monastery, etc.)

Define "rough entry." I can dive Monastery in anything up to about 6-8 footers, but I have experience there and we used to teach OW classes there. If it's really rough, and you just need to get your fix, go to the north side, enter near the daycare center and swim under the kelp. Big swells...

Looking for a dive buddy July 12/13/14 - Monterey area

It looks like I'll probably take the boat out on Sunday.

    Good Big Sur dive sites.

Big Sur is a BIG area. How far south are they going? Diablo Pinnacles has a lot of dive sites. If you go to Lobos Rocks, the best diving is where, if you were shore diving, it would be first place you touched the first rock. I've done dozens of dives at Lobos Rocks, and have explored around...

    Good Big Sur dive sites.

Yup, and they drive down there from K-dock. It's about half an hour longer ride than Carmel, depending on how far south they go and sea conditions. An hour if they go really far south.

    Good Big Sur dive sites.

There are TONS of VERY good diving spots in Big Sur. Which boat are your diving from?

With me, it's ALWAYS a boat dive. A wall dive near East Pinnacles that showed up on the topo map. As yet unnamed.

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

Yesterday in Carmel we had a green layer down to about 25 ft, then the vis opened up to 40 ft or so. Temp was still cold, avg of 46, and it was a tad surgy.

I dived Local's Ledge today from my boat. Vis was easily 70 ft. I could see from one pinnacle to the other, and down to the sand channel about 100 ft away. Simply gorgeous.
