    Emerald Charters - 3-tank trips?

Emerald is a great operation. They usually spearfish deep. 80-130 ft., (advanced diving). You can get tank rentals at Scuba-Works, (including any size tank needed and nitrox) and if you can't get or return them Randy will schlep them for you.

    Steel with 1/2 valve fills

I'm heading south to the Orlando area in May for an EXTENDED stay. Two of my tanks are old steel tanks with 1/2 valves. They are in hydro and VIPed. Will I have trouble getting these filled and VIPed in the greater Orlando area? Also, can people recommend shops in the area. I'll be living in...

    Skipping Hydro

BINGO! The 5 year hydro test is a DOT requirement. It is illegal to transport any compressed gas tank on US highways w/o it. This includes fire extinguishers also. John

    JBL 38 Special Woody

I've decided since I have only used my JBL 38 Special Woody 4 times in two years. It is time let it go to someone who will give it some good use. It is in excellent condition with the original bands. I have two additional bands for it still in the original packaging. This is a great gun. The...

Looking for dive sites in Poughkeepsie NY area

To be really honest, there really isn't any other choice. Minnewaska vis is the worst I've seen since we have had all the rain. A couple of weeks ago we had < 10 ft. vis and the water was very cold. Surface was 65 and it go colder very quickly. I suggest VT or Lake George for better fresh...

    Flash setup for A720IS?

The ISS 2000 flash is working very well. I have only had it in the water twice so far, once at Dutch and once at Minnewaska Lake. I use one preflash and have played with different flash inteneities. I find level 1 or 2 gives me enough light for most situations. The flash is on a 12" arm from...

Calling all doctors... real ones, not tv characters

You are 100% correct. I am still interested in the N2 of the very slow compartments. As you say the pressure change is not huge it can have an effect on the body. I am very interested in what your thinking is in regards to using a positive pressure (PP) breathing device and the N2 level in...

Calling all doctors... real ones, not tv characters

Avra, You missed some specific points to Wendy's case. Wendy does not know if she will have supplemental O2 yet. I am speaking only of use machine use w/o supplemental O2. Wendy, as you might guess by her screen name lives 1000+ feet above sea level, so she already is at a lower psi...

Calling all doctors... real ones, not tv characters

Hey Wen. The mask fit/comfort is REALLY important. It is often the make or break for using the machine. My O2 saturation dropped to ~ 72%, amazing what the body does. Just remember, "My wife yes, my dog maybe, my VPAP never." and you know how I love Nikita. John

Oh, and wear your dive computer while you sleep to account for the exposure. ;)

Calling all doctors... real ones, not tv characters

Wendy, with a machine doing the work of keeping your airway open, you may not need O2. Also, remember when breathing O2 at depth, you are concerned with the O2 partial pressure and time of exposure. In bed, you are at essentially std pressure, 14.7 psi, (no dirty jokes here). You would not be...

Calling all doctors... real ones, not tv characters

Wendy, I have used a VPAP w/o O2 since 2004. If I try to sleep without it, I don't. Severe sleep apnea begins at 40 episodes per hour; I was tested at 84 per hour. It takes a few days to get used to the mask and positive pressure; now I don't even notice it. As per your diving, it will...
