Another lost to Gulf of Mexico oil rig spearfishing

Rok did what any of us would have done. What happened to Mike was tragic. Could it have been avoided....yes...stay out the water. That is how you avoid dive accidents. And that goes for all divers not just us speardivers. We dive the way we do from years of experience and hundreds of dives...

    Diving Louisiana

In the fall or whenever the river is low the gulf clears up nicely even in close. We hit the rigs within sight of land and had 60' of viz. But......you need a boat. Lake Pontchartrain can get real nice at any time...just got to be ready to go at a moments notice. Theres not much to see in...

    A great day of spearing

So Gen San Chris, I guess you would rather see a fish escape with a shaft stuck in him because a free diver needed air that see a scuba diver harvest the fish. Just like Pat said a free diver makes no noise and can sneak up much easier that a diver on scuba. Try diving the northern gulf of...

Dive Report: St. Andrews State Park PCB 04-18-09

We dove off the Narcosis with the Dive Locker and it was not that bad on that boat. Seas were maybe 4 feet with a few rollers mixed in to keep it interresting. Looking to make a spring dive to soon to get my wife and daughter ready for the summer.

    Question from a young gun

Dont shoot fish unless you know they make the limit. There are plenty of fish that will make it with no question. If it looks small....it is..........go with your gut...it is usually right......we have the added benefit out at the rigs of never having to question sizes. You will gain...

    Loading my gun ???

Baja plus is a rear handle and the Island is a mid handle. You pretty much have to load from the chest. Get a shaft with a rest tab and start on the hip and finish fom the chest.

    Free jbl's here!!!

You are wasting your time with those guns for tunas especially in open water. They are not made for it, like you said they are great in the rocks. The Magnum or 450 magnum XHD's may suffice....I have killed plenty of fish with a magnum....but if you really want to chase tuna you really should...

    Pony bottle for hunting

Spadefish.... I shot one freediving last weekend because my son wanted to try one..they are flippers too. He is rather adventureous on the food. He ate it...which was good for the rest of us because the meant there was more ARS and Trigger.

    Pony bottle for hunting

Slung bottle seems ok for freeshafting but the entanglement factor would definately increase with lineshafting. We all use back mounted 13 or 19 cf. I had a little lemonfish wrap my gun to my arm last year....they are the "flippingest" fish in the gulf.

    "Caveat Emptor" with Oceanic Service

Now that is why I dive with Oceanic. There is an example of true customer service. I am diving a Data Trans Plus and love it. My wife has a Data Plus 2 and my original Prodigy make all my dives as a backup. Someone gave me a Delta 2 after Katrina and I am getting it ready to go. We also have...
