Why do Used Divesoft Liberty's Lose so much value?

Brett's death appears to have been a medical issue and not related to the rebreather. Those of us on the NSS-CDS Accident Analysis Committe will have the final report on his death written up soon and it will be posted on the NSS-CDS website. I can't comment on the other deaths as I have no...

Unknown Woody From “Dive Talk” DCS and Medical Journey

They have the transcripts from DAN, but DAN has had difficulty getting the transcripts of the calls from their travel company. Once DAN and Dive Talk have those in hand, they plan a follow up video. The very good news is that DAN has been very receptive and is making changes to make diving...

    PFO Testing in Canada

Agreed. While the risk of PFO closure is quite small, it is not zero. The FDA approved indication for PFO closure in the USA is cryptogemic stroke in patients 18-65 years of age. This is basically a stroke with no other etiology found other than the PFO and closure is only performed after...

Continue or stop diving with a PFO?

Yes, David Doulette is part of that group!!! Sorry, David. I meant no disrespect!😁

Orca Torch D710 -- AWESOME light!

For a couple of years, I had seen friends (both recreational and technical/cave divers) move to Orca Torch lights. A couple of weeks ago, Orca Torch sent me a D710 to evaluate. It is very compact, has multiple power settings with a maximum of 3000 lumens output, and has a nice narrow beam. I...

Continue or stop diving with a PFO?

Thank you, guys, for the kind words. I'm just glad you are doing well. That is what is most important. And from a page or so back, I would never disagree with Simon Mitchell. In my opinion, when it comes to decompression physiology he is the ultimate authority. (OK, maybe Neal Pollock is up...

Active Divers over the age of 50

I'm 63 and have been diving since 1974. Currently I teach everything from open water through CCR full trimix and CCR cave. My "real job" is as a cardiologist, but I still manage about 150 dives per year between local cave diving, local ocean diving, and travel.

    Megalodon teeth rebreather charters

These guys are great and, yes, they support CCR diving. Mike Young, of KISS Rebreathers, uses them all the time! I was on one of those trips a couple of years ago and it was great. https://wbdiving.com/

    Buford Springs Conditions?

Bump! I'm taking Advanced Recreational Trimix students to Buford Springs next weekend. I've heard reports that it is "browned out". Anyone been there in the last week or so?

    CCR Cave course duration

Anthony (hroark2112) -- I'm glad you enjoyed the course. We DEFINITELY got a lot of academics and diving done in a week! I thoroughly enjoyed it as well!!!

    CCR Cave course duration

I agree completely with Jim (who is vastly more experienced than me). In my opinion, Eagle's Nest is NOT suitable for a CCR cave class, even for someone who is already open circuit full trimix certified. It should be reserved for those who are (1) already cave certified (either open circuit or...

    CCR Cave course duration

By IANTD standards, the MINIMUMS are 10 dives and 600 minutes of in-water time. When I teach CCR cave the course is a week and we always exceed those numbers.

    ASD and aneurysm question

I'm an interventional cardiologist who closes PFOs/ASDs/etc, a diving medicine physician, and an active recreational/technical, CCR/cave scuba diver/instructor. I would be happy to discuss your ASD with you. PM me and I'll give you my cell number to give me a call.

    Buford Springs Conditions?

Has anyone been to Buford Springs lately? I was there about 4 weeks ago (August 1) and with the heavy rains we had around that time, it was browned out. I even ran a line from the ladder (as the visibility was zero at the ladder) down to 100 feet and there was still no visibility whatsoever...

Barge at Lauderdale by the Sea

I was there Monday for a Force Blue event and spoke with representatives of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. The barge is sinking a large number of concrete structures as an artificial reef just north of the pier.

    burping loop

I agree that you should vent your counterlungs as you ascend on bailout and (1) not be so overweighted that you could hold a shallow deco stop with them fully inflated and/or (2) rely on the OPV to vent them adequately. The "trick" to venting your counterlungs with a DSV is to make sure you...

    Second Episode of Skin Bends

I agree completely with Duke Dive Medicine. As an active recreational/technical/CCR/cave diving instructor and an interventional cardiologist who closes PFOs on selected divers on a regular basis, I would be happy to discuss your case with you in detail if you would like. PM me and I''l give...
